So, as the title suggests - let's talk about screw in LED bulbs and growing cannabis as well as other plants.
It's 2022, who is making the highest output and most reasonably priced led bulbs on the market?
Strange for it to still be elusive to find household bulbs above 100 Lm/Watt :confused:

think it was the dubai version of a philips bulb containing more leds then the usual version.
anyway, i havent sawn a led bulb beeing on the same level output wise as recent strips are.
even the ones arrow blows out for below a dollar will outperform these bulbs.
on top is that their drivers are quite shitty efficiency wise.
sure theyre easy to get and they will veg a nd flower our plants, but there are better ways.

Clearly the public is being duped. Paying al the $ per bulb for something that barely outperform a CFL on lumens in most cases.
I have notices that the T5 Led Tubes are generally much higher on efficiency. Possibly do to those being primarily used in commercial installations :peace:


Take this Direct Wire T5 for example. I am currently using these for veg with great results. And yes - that's 3500K for veg

It's funny you mention drivers - that is the worst component in a lot of the Amazon, Sansi, etc cheap china lights and don't think Meanwell is exempt. That driver HLG is shipping on the HLG65 is a pos 0.5 PF special.

why its funny? a meanwell is at least a real switch mode power supply.
btw. i never had one fail on me, i have drivers who outlasted every light bulb in my flat allready.
pushing those smps to their limits is what shorten their lifespan.

be asured that in these lightbulbs is the real shit.
theyre not even safe to operate with a opened enclosure, theyre not galvanic isolated and ment to be used enclosed in plastic how they came.

Assuming that is the bulb pictured, here is a par map with the diffuser removed at 5.5" mounting height. Pretty impressive output actually but they are .7 Power Factor and I'm sure you know the base get's super hot super quick. Probably not last too long :peace:

The "off the shelf screw in led and CFL bulb comparison" thread on ICMAG has a wealth of information and some pretty impressive flower shots if anyone needs to be convinced they are a viable option. I used them in a couple cabinet's for a few years and it is pretty crazy what you can pull off with screw in led bulbs. I think they definitely have a spot in hobby grows and where tight budgets are a factor.

theyre easy to use with all the avaiable holders out there.
wont hesitate to veg some plants in a corner with them.
but for me thats about it.
my power rates are above 30cent a kwh, so i aim more for 200 lumen per watt instead of the 100 most bulbs are offering.
if i would be after the last penny, the cheap strips offered by arrow with a real switch mode driver from some offer would be still my choice.
"real" recent led strips arent much more then bulbs either, blux f.e. beating every bulb by lenghs.
problem with the bulbs is that theyre not initially made to be used with leds, so the engineers need to take out the hacksaw to acomplish the goal.
not the case with a propper led strip, driver combination and for a similar price its a no brainer for me.
there is no color temp you cant get as a strip you get in a bulb either, so easy choice.

This takes me back to when I first got into growing when I came home!!! EVERYBODY was building their own led fixtures and I was just catching the end of cfls being replaced by the led bulbs!!! I always wanted to try building something like this light setup!!! That grow right there is awesome!!!

The last CFL I owned caught fire yesterday. I'm officially over that lighting technology lol. I still have a 4x55w PL-L fixture, but the light output is so ridiculously low for the wattage that I don't see fluorescents having any use anymore.

Hey you SIL folks...

It would be great if somebody tried dimming their led bulbs and measuring if they get more efficient. They should, shouldn't they? Unless the power supplies become very inefficient or something... You would need dimmable bulbs ofc.
