Light Didnt Turn Off! AAARRRGGGHHHH

Oh dear , well it seems my timer burnt out last night (bloody thing was rated at 3000w and 2amps, my light is 600w and 1.8amps). As i came to the grow room this morning 2 hours before lights were due on, only to see light beaming out of the budbox (metaphorically speaking: they are pretty light-proof). This means the light stayed on all night.

Now i know light stress can cause hermies, so i figured i would turn the light straight off, and then back on at its usual time.

I just wondered if anyone has had this happen before, and if so, did it make any difference to the crop and what did you do?.

Its such a shame as my babies are ooooozing resin all over the place.

Please someone, tell me it'll be just fine and one night makes no difference what so ever.

Hahaha! Oh, man, that sucks! I've never had that happen, so I can't help you, but my deepest sympathies. It would stand to reason that one night wouldn't make a significant difference.

Won't affect anything unless your plants are "Hermie-risks" to begin with.

Imagine outdoor MJ in a lightning storm at night while flowering...one night won't make a difference.

You should be fine :)

Very good point cheetah ! The question is, what stage of growth are you at ? If they are in veg, then the time that (the lights) were on isn't any different then a 24/0 setup and I night won't change a thing. If they were in 12/12, what week ? If the flowers are already set, the chances of any morphing from one night of disorientation is minimal. I would have returned to 12/12 immediately to start the cycle again instead of waiting two hours for the regular start time, but in any event, you should be fine. Oozing resin tells me your pretty far along into flowering.

nice one for your replies, its definately put my mind at rest a bit. The plants are about 3-4 weeks away from harvest (give or take a week). So i was worried. But thanks again... :-)

should be okay i had this happen to me all the time during flowering damn timer was so cheap it broke on me several times. i got a digital timer now. when it happens i just turned them off and waited for its original time to go on and off. they still turned out to be fine. the one i have now was a hermie but i got rid of the balls and still nothing new has reappeared. so i am guessing that everything should be okay. good luck man

Ok, well its been just over a week since it happened to me, and everything still seems fine (touch-wood). So it does seem that it doesnt make too much difference. Although i am definately going to keep my lights on digi timers, as they seem more reliable.

Plants can be pretty forgiving to us who make mistakes while caring for them. I don't think anything really drastic would've happened unless the same mistake happens multiple times and isn't corrected. Best of luck to the rest of your grow!

IMO the best thing to do would be to give them 12 hours of darkness, even after the heavy lighting period. Its the 12 hours of darkness that causes the plant to flower, not the 12 hours of light. i know of some people who actually grow using a 20hours on, 12 hours off cycle.,

on that note, due to some unseen roadblocks, i personally have had to mess around with the light cycle once or twice and had no serious negative effects. its definitely best to avoid though :)

That's really interesting! Do you know if they really had better results? I could see that working, as humans after all seem to be built around a 36-hour clock rather than the natural 24-hour one.

i hate giving advice, because i'm really no expert. but from what i've heard, you can get some better yields by giving the plants longer daylight hours, as long as the 12 hours of darkness is maintained it sohuld be fine . FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD heh, i've never tried it. almost everyone swears by 12/12 so thats what i do :)
