Light Fixtures Falling from The Sky

I have a 22 lb light that I'm trying to hang from the closet but am having difficulties keeping the anchors in the ceiling. I first tried 75 lb. Drywall Anchors which pulled right out when adjusting the light height. Next I tried 60 lb.Swivel Hangers, one pulled out when adjusting light height. The other Swivel Anchor is holding strong. I think the area of the closet ceiling I'm trying to anchor into is weak and will require something that expands wider for more surface area support. Any suggestions?

OK, been thinking about it and came up with installing drywall anchors on opossing walls and running picture hanging wire between the two. I can then attach the light ratchet to the wire.

In one grow ..years ago, I fixed a broom handle to within 2 inches (horizontally) of the ceiling to hold a light that went well, but really the other alternative was finding a ceiling stud and bolting into that ..too much hassle was renting at the time ...good luck

locate the studs by tapping small nails through the drywall. if you don't hit a stud, it'll go right through. if you hit a stud, mark it.

once your studs are marked out, tie a couple pieces of 2x into them, and then hang your lights off those with u-hooks or eye-hooks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was also thinking of one of those adjustable witdth chin up bars you put in a doorways or even a closet rod. I'm going to try this anchor left over from a garage project. I think it will expand enough in one of the existing holes. The light isn't even that heavy so I thought it would be worth a go. tap a small nail through until you find a stud, and then secure that eye-hook into the stud. you might need to drill a small pilot hole with a small bit to get it started.

OK, going with 1x4s attached to the studs, which only run at the perimeter rather than across the closet ceiling it seems. Thanks guys!

Warning: This shit can be highly addictive, shrinks call it DIY syndrome, at worst you will be building housing for Africans, someplace 'in Africa' at least spending every waking moment building shit in your garage,...you may be married and have a good job with fringe benefits, it don't matter ..your life is that next DIY project!
