So here's the scoop. I got to go back to work after a long lay off, and I will not be able to tend to my girl with my current light schedule and work schedule. The lights would be on during my work hrs, and off by the time I come home. What harm if any would it cause to give her a 24hr dark period, and then restart 12/12 to match my work schedule. I def don't want to give 24hr light, as I don't want it trying to reveg. Anyone else done this before?

You don't have a timer? Beyond that I doubt it would matter that much, but there are a pile of people on here who know waaaaay more than I about such things so take my answer with a grain of salt.

A timer is the tool you need. They are really cheap like under 10 bucks. Once you set up a dawn dusk schedule you really don't want to start tweeking the schedule. You might be able to do it but imo the stress it would cause could very well be a disaster.

I have a timer, just haven't set it up. Reason is, I am growing in my garage, and have nothing big enough for the whole set up. I've got her in a storage tote right now, and me & my wife are in and out of there all the time. I've got a little partition set up, and I've actually been covering/uncovering every 12 hrs. Little bit of a hassle, but it's been working.

But since I'n going back to work, nobody will be in there for at least 12hrs a day. So then the timer will be great. If I keep the times how it is now, I would never see them in the light.

I'm supposed to be getting a cabinet that's 6 1/2'x3'x1 1/2'. It would be so much easier then.

So will the one time of 20-24 hrs dark be ok then? Since I'm going to get the timer set up today, and be able to maintain a 12/12 from tomorrow on. Then the lights will come on just as I'm getting home and off just as I'm leaving. I just found out Friday I'm going back to work Monday, so it's been kind of a rush into it thing. Didn't have time to gradually work light schedule into work schedule.

it'll be fine, just stress it out a tad. make sure you're good to her afterwards so she can have a healthy recovery if need be. it will probably be fine though.

I messed up many many times extending dark period during my current grow, the plants didnt seem to care much. I reckon you`re ok, extending the light period during flower would have been more problematic.

dont cheap out on a timer, i did and regretted it.
a timer is essential piece of your equiptment.
i went for over kill, ie a timer with enough ball to run 8 600's even tho i only run 3.
also future proof's yourself if you expand.

I have a digital timer I can set for 30 days. I'm going to get that set up sometime today. And since I'm only running one 400w hps, and being gone from home for 12hrs at a time, I shouldn't have to worry about that part. And yes, like I said in first post, I wasn't about to extend light period for any reason.

leaving a light on during flowering stage is almost basically like a light leak on the plant eventually that plant MAY turn hermie....

also a plant can take up to about 5 mins worth of light whilst its in its sleep state but make sure that light ya using to see those plants is green in colour as they dont get light sympthasis on the plant by the green light but as for 24 hours i think those plants wont last if they do let me know if they did...

Guys he just wants the light on when he's home. I love how most people that post are not even understanding the question being asked but have an answer anyway, LOL. You should be ok with a longer dark period, its when the dark period is interrupted with light that cause issues from what I understand.
