Light question for indoor veg room for outdoor crop?

Was wondering what light schedule do you have your baby's on before you put them outside? The past few years I've kept mine at 16/8 with good success, but I was wondering if I could extend the grow time a little without the baby's going right into flower when I put them out? maybe 17/7? 18/6 caused instant flower a few years back.

It don't really matter, so long as you have them at your current external light times, plants will adapt at planting out, so long as the suns not reached its Zenith at your location you should be fine!

I agree mofoo, Like I mentioned that evey baby I stuck out that was on 18/6 went into flower while the ones I had on 16/8 continued to veg for till normal time. Don't get me wrong, a early harvest is always nice, but I dont want 4ft tall plants, i want my 12ft tall trees. :weed:

That makes no sense at all.... It Matters A Lot! Otherwise you get hermies or they bud out early when they should be vegging. What I like to do is determine what date(approx.) I am going to transplant outdoors. Then I look up the sun tables for my specific region. The sun table will show you when sun up and sun down are for that time frame and region. So I have already set my veg room lights for early May light cycle. That way when they are transplanted outside in May( after a few days of hardening), they are already acclimated to when the sun goes up and down. So right now my veg room is set to turn on at 5am and turns off at 8pm. Here is a sun table link.....http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php Hope this helps:)

This is what I meant, so long as the sun has not reached the longest day you should be fine, if you are getting 12 hours sunlight now, and you have been using 18/6
STICK TO 12 HOURS A DAY PLUS 6 HOURS INDOOR LIGHT = 18 hours total per day
either way FREDA does what I do!

I do what I do, not what You do, Vostok. I learned it on RIU years before you arrived here two months ago.

i have put plants out that were under 24hours of light in june and had no issues.

and heres what happened, (this was about 15 years ago) i put a couple hundred clones out in march because i ran out of space and they of course all started to flower so i hung a 1000w MH in the tree above all the plants and eventually they all started to veg again and around june i cut the light off the continued to veg and exploded in growth and all turned out to be massive healthy plants.

If you can run lights over them you can get away with putting them out earlier..I kept these plants on 18/6 indoors before putting them out in May. Kept 18/6 until June 22 (longest day of year) and cut off the lights. The plants got HUGE!
Clones will trigger into flowering quicker/easier than plants started from seeds, because they are more sexually mature. I'm starting some clones indoors right now for spring planting, I'll keep them on 16/8 because we won't have lights outdoors.....good luck

Does everyone here "harden" their plants when they put them outside...you know, put them in a shady spot for 5 to 7 days before giving them direct access to sunlight ?

Do you not have to do this with some strains ?

I'm veggin' with cfl's, and I will probably be growing Purple Maroc...thanks, SC

You should always harden off your plants for a week. Indoor plants have not been abused by the harsh environment of the outdoors, so if you do not harden them off you run the risk if killing them due to heat, wind, to much sun ect.

like i said i have never harden the thousands of plants when moved outside from the inside and i grow massive trees on a commercial level. i think if a plant dies because its moved from inside light to outside light it was a weak plant to begin with and you don't need it. you always want the healthiest clones due to them being much weaker plants already compared to a seed plant.

Ive read that if you use fluorescent lights you should hardern off....not so much if you use a HPS....

Thoughts ? Anyone here not harden off after vegging with fluorescent lighting ?

16/8 is a veg photo period and was the recommended photo period for veg when i started growing
18/6 became popular in the mid 90s
24/0 became popular in the 00s

strange you notice a difference outdoor
indoor i veg my plants on 16/8 or 18/6 they go into flower just the same when flowered
on 14/10 they grow a little more before flower sets in

what i have noticed made the most difference for me was taking cuttings from a rejuvenated plant
these cuttings are always in a state of heavy preflower and will flower quickly in a few days
in a week small buds

peace
