i have had that problem (bad timer ) nothing happened to the plants and trust me i stressed and checked and rechecked for any sign of hermi and all went well.

It shouldn't be a problem, just try to keep it from happening too often. Worst case scenario, they take a bit longer to fully fatten up, or they go back into veg state briefly. Very worst case is the small possibility it could herm on you, but that is a minute possibility.

Not completely dumb, you are half right. It does take 12 hours of darkness for flowering hormones to build up to a level that induces and maintains flowering. But plants have circadian rhythms, just like animals, that is genetically inherited and set for 24 hour cycles. If taken out of the standard (earthly) 24 hour light/dark cycle, their hormone production free-cycles (they won't know whether to flower or not) until or if night and day matches up to their circadian rhythm once again.

I read somewhere that when you germinate 24/0, you have the option of selecting how many hours in a day you want to use. 24, 30, 36... 48.. Its possible. Theoretically, 36/12 would satisfy the plants hormonal needs for flowering and provide 50% more light for growth in the same amount of time.
