Lighting system for a closet growroom (on a budget)

I'm setting up a grow room in a closet and have ran into many questions. I have a basic grow book, but it still let me with many questions. The problem is that this shit is expensive, and finding the right suplies to fit my growroom is a large task. So if anyone has some answers please let me know. My room is 2.5ft x 3ft x 8ft.

The first think is my light. I have clf's i plan to use for seedlings. I would say 6-8 23w might be good enough. The flowering area lighting is causing a major headache for me. I want a HPS or MH light to get some high level of lumens and big buds but they are spendy and produce alot of heat. I found a 400w sunburst MH/HPS growlight at a hydro store for $220. Also the Sun System 2 400w HPS for $179. Would the lighting system with the built in balest be good for this growroom and would heat be a problem? I have air going in and out of my room through 8" pipeing and small fans.

Let me know what lighting system would be cheep and effective for my small room. Thanks

Here's a way to look at it. You go through all the trouble setting up your grow, your 1 month into it and thinks are looking good for your girls. You put some CFLs over the girls and adjust them twice a day for best coverage, and at best you could end up with some half decent smoke.

You will need quite a few CFLS to cover that area. I was just in your shoes, so I went out and purchased over $150 worth of 42 watt CFLs for flowering, sockets, wireing, bases, splitters..... And they are all just sitting on my shelf, unused.

I figured by going all this way I wanted some true power in flowering.

Got a 600watt HPS with air cooled reflector for $350, and now I never have to worry. I will use the CFL's in case of emergency.

Hope this helps, you can spend alot of money on CFL's....

Very true. I plan to use the cfl's until i can purchase a decent lighting system. But i want nice buds so a HPS or HP light is definitely what i want to use. Any suggestions on what would be best and cheap? I like the 400w unvented stuff, but has anyone seen these get too hot in an enclosed area? I have my grow area vented with small fans, will it be too hot?

yeah man im saying cfls work preetty good man they frow a lil slower but a decent crop can be produced by them good man GBG

Yea man i did the same thing went and bought tons on CFLs, splitters and all that bull shit flowered a plant or 2 that way and ended up buying my 600W Hps for 160$, you can also order a 400W hps from HTGsupply for like 140-160$ shipped i did that aswell but never used the 400W cause i found my 600W locally from a person be4 the 400 ever showed up. ive flowered plenty of plants with the hps and the results are not even comparable to a CFL yeild!not to mention you can flower multi plants with 1 hps! not multi lights for 1 plant!:leaf:

yo bro wassup my fellow potheads :wink: about those expensive MH/HPS lights u mentioned, i have been runnin 6 100W tot. CFLs for the first like 3wks of my grow ive got 4plants [2 of which i just did am LST to about 3min ago] they workin very nice [make sure to be using 5000-6500k CFLs for vegetative phase] but anyway i just ordered a brand new 600w grow light w/ a reflector and ballast with 1 600w HPS bulb & 1 600w MH bulb plus a timer for my lights for US 1$35 and $20 S&H. basically im suggesting you check ebay lol. good luck and keep me updated. i have some ak47 seeds and nirvana ICE seeds expected in thursday so once i get them ima be starting a journal. keep in touch bro....happy smokin
