Littering. I can't take it anymore. What is wrong with people?

Went for my daily walk. Came back home disgusted. What is wrong with people? I'm glad I didn't witness the fool that tossed this trash. There would have been problems.

Why? I just can't comprehend why anyone would do this. How are these people being raised? What is going through their minds? It makes me so mad. Fills me with rage. I guess I'll start taking a trash bag and gloves when I go for my walks.

Yes I'm ranting. I'm just extremely passionate about this issue.

It's a spot where people sleep in their cars. I've seen trash along the same block before. Pizza boxes, fast food trash, etc... You can see a spoon and a fork in the picture. There's also a suspicious ziplock bag. I didn't stop to look too closely other than to slow down to snap a couple photos to send to the city. I want to ask them why there were several city workers parked a few blocks away chatting for at least 45 minutes doing absolutely nothing.

It was probably some meth user hanging out overnight tweaking tossing crap out of their car. I say that because there are a couple pieces of mail which is probably stolen.

I didn't have anything with me or I would have.

I mean, then why post about it online if you aren't going to actually do anything about it?

You're in Portland, right? You should ask your city leaders to actually do something about the homeless problem; also push to outlaw overnight parking - and more police could certainly help enforce some laws/codes. Something makes me think any solution that might have actual, tangible results might not be too popular there, but I'm from CA so what do I know - I'm sure my suggestions would not be well-received.

It sucks when you're neighborhood is the victim of trashy people (no pun intended)

And are you really surprised that city/government employees wouldn't be productive?

Why did you post your comment? Think about what you're doing before you question someone else about what they're doing.

Maybe some stoner will see this and think twice before tossing that Big Gulp container out the window. I pick up plenty of trash. I didn't have a trash bag or pair of gloves to deal with that mess which was close to a mile from my house. Should I have stuffed it in my pockets? What would you have done if you were out for a walk and came across that?

This is an online forum. People interact through posting. I made a post about littering. Isn't that one of the purposes of an online forum? People make posts and others comment on them. I posted in Toke and Talk. Let's talk about littering. If you just want to criticize then that's your prerogative.

Over the years I've participated in numerous trash collection activities. I always take a trash bag when I go hiking, boating, etc... and use it to gather trash others discard. You have my sincere apology for not being prepared to deal with a sticky mess while I was out walking around the neighborhood.

National Cleanup Day Is September 17'th

You're joking right?

I'll pull something from my signature.

Some of these people could screw up an anvil with a rubber hammer.

and you're voting against these people and their ilk when they come up for reelection, right?

from your mayor's bio:

He does this by leading on:
  • Police reform, accountability, and restorative justice.
  • Protecting our environment with progressive, aggressive action.
  • Protecting public safety, health, and vulnerable populations.
  • Strengthening vibrant communities, focusing on shared economic prosperity.
  • Closing the wealth gap by creating economic structures that ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Improving access to government for all residents.
  • Putting the City on a fiscally sustainable future.
  • Building an unprecedented number of affordable housing units in the city.
  • Furthering Portland’s reputation as an innovative, creative, and unique place to live, work, and play.

I suppose trash in the street is the cost you (you, the taxpayer) pays to live in such a utopia.

We have chain gangs that pick up the trash in my county. They use the non violent offenders from the county jail and pick up all the trash that idiots toss out their car windows. I think it's a great idea. The inmates get some outside time and we get clean roads. I can't stand littering either, the cigarette butts kill me. There's an ashtray in the damn car, use it.

Littering is a bipartisan activity. Some people are just pigs. I've been out to Eastern Oregon and other parts of the state and have encountered trash. Those Busch Light cans are not from Portland Oregon.

I picked up a good 20-30 of them "Busch, Coors Light, Bud Light, etc..." cans along with a bunch of spent shotgun shells a few years ago when out picking Chanterelles in the Oregon Coast Range. These were not left by any Pinot Noir sipping Portlander.

Most cars don't have ashtrays anymore. Usually it's a change thing now. They also don't have cigarette lighters anymore. I lose my shit when people throw lit butts out here in the mountains. But I didn't care in cities like Seattle.

Not a fan of littering though.

Yeah, my wife's truck didn't have one so I bought her one that fits in the cup holder since she's a smoker. It's just with all the people i see flicking them out the windows in fire season, I want to scream. Too many kids growing up having other people do everything for them. It leaves them feeling entitled. Get off my lawn!!! :bigjoint:

true, but if you're elected officials are not addressing the problem, it might time for new elected officials.

I quit smoking cigs over 6 years ago, but I still got a cup holder ash tray off Amazon for like $15, specifically for the rare hot-box occasion with friends. Even then I use reusable glass tips for my joints which I clean and reuse. That plus a small trash can and all my trash goes out with the weekly house garbage. A couple of ozium gel systems and the car smells good is clean and I'm and respecting the enviro. The only thing I'll dump out into the street is ice left in a cup. Never a reason to dump anything out of the car onto the street.
