in hydro, you have 2 options: a sterile res or using beneficial bacteria. i've done both: both work, both are pretty cheap, both are easy.
you should think about using something to prevent rot in the future. your roots look perfect now but it doens't take much to get rot and ruin a plant quickly.

Thanks I have some great white, also I ended up thinking it was not rot, and just went with your first diagnosis, I was over feeding, drained, flushed and left her alone for a day, feed to 1000 ec and she is eating again .I really appreciate your help...check out her babys

keep using distilled until you get a few grows under your belt. then use 1/2 distilled, 1/2 tap and see how it works for you.

one thing to check before you do that is to see what is in your tap water. your gov't should give you a free water analysis.

I'd rather dump a bunch of water than buy a medium for bugs to breed in. Not to mention that when youre done you have a huge lump of soil each time

Stick to hydro. Less problems and greater grow times. If you have the money for an RO sysyem id makd the investment if not. Get a good descaler, because tap water will clog your system with left over minerals from the tap water.
