So I have a half oz extraction tube and a 2 oz tube...I pack the 14 gram tube with buds packed tightly wrap 2 coffe filter and blow onto a pirex dish sitting in a pot of warm water double boiler...have the stove on 3 so water doesnt boil but is hot...I Have whipped my oil after being blown into pyrex dish and I have also done it without whipping it just let it sit on double boiler for an hour to purge off all butane...now I scrap my dish and put the oil in a candle dish that I use to.hold my oil...then set it on a candle.warmer for another hour or two sometimes longer but it gets dark the longer it sits....I usually get about 1.5 gram for a 14 gram run ...I run buds twice pull em out break em up and rerun em but trim only gets ran once....u guys got any advice to make tastier oil I was told not whipping makes it taste better but I couldnt tell.much since the run I tested the no whipping on was a plant that got chopped two weeks early....what my oil looks like after 45 min on candle warmer
How long & wide is your tube? How fine do you chop the buds? How dry is the bud mix? I would've thought that you'd get more oil using bud. I've done 6 batches of butane oil using a stainless steel tube. I use low quality heads & leaf using different ratios. When I use a 25% head 75% leaf ratio I got 3g from 30.

I've been led to believe that the mix needs to be fairly dry but not dessicated & finely mixed but not powdered. To pack firmly but not tight. Is this correct?

I suspect that my tube is a little too large. I had two stainless steel ends with a threaded cap welded to a piece of ss pipe. Drilled 5 x 5ml holes in one cap end & 1 x 5ml hole in the other cap end. It's 1&1/2" wide & it's 10" long. It takes up to 40g to fill. Is there a most efficient size tube?
If I made another it would be 1&1/2" wide & 6-7" long.

I recommend 1" or under for a single pass column. It makes it easier to pack uniformly enough for the butane to not just find the easy way through.

Yeah your probably right. I didn't have the option because it was the only size fitting in ss.

I actually run up to 3 cans because of the large amount of green. I've been meaning to get a 2nd dish so I can see what I actually collect from the 3rd.

No, I don't whip. I found that putting the bowl in another bowl of hot water [very hot not boiling. Oil does not like being over-heated] for at least an hour, changing the water regularly with not quite boiling water, is the thing that gives me the best oil. I don't like putting the bowl in a double boiler because it smells like it's cooking. I'm just learning & I'm pleased with the results as is so hopefully it'll get better as I improve my skills :)
