Looking to switch to soilless and need some help

I'm pretty new to all of this and I'm looking to switch up some things before starting my next grow. Previously, I've used basic potting soil (Coast of Maine Bar Harbor) with plenty of perlite in a 5gal fabric pot. The plant was not great, though I'm almost 100% certain it was genetics. It was a random bagseed that shouldn't have been there and had pretty bizarre traits throughout the grow. The final product was also unlike anything I've had before, a very strange high that I didn't like at all.

Anyway, I'm looking to change things up. I've been researching soilless mixes and I'm drawn to Promix. Unlike the previous plant, I now have specific nutrients (Advanced MGB) so I can do a little more than just throw something into decent potting soil and pray.

I want this to be easy. It's basically just for fun and I'm not looking to spend a whole lot. I am also not looking for a some award winning return, simply keeping it alive would be a success.

I guess here are some questions -
What type/version of promix would be best?
It is really necessary to amend it if I'm using specific nutrients (I plan on adding perlite unless not recommended)?
How concerned should I be about PH? I've read that promix by itself may need some work out of the bag.
I'm guessing I do not need to flush it (unlike coco coir)?

Any guidance would be much appreciated, thanks.

I use Promix HP, white and silver bag

It has plenty of perlite,so nothing needs to be added

I've run Mega Crop with good results, even better with GH flora trio

You feed/water every feeding usually. Veg about every 3-4 days, in flower every other day

To me it's much easier than Soil, and a bit easier than DWC

It's buffered to about 6.2 so no need to ph yer nute mix

Same thing here. Promix HP, no amendments, Mega Crop for nutrients. I start out low with my feeds, about 2 weeks after the seed pops the soil, then start at about 0.3 EC and slowly work up.

Edit: I also add a spoonful of Epsom salts per gallon or two of water. But that's because I find I don't get enough with the Mega Crop. I tend to get purple and weak stems if I don't add it.

I run my Mom's in Sunshine#4 and like it. They use enough dolomite to keep the PH of the rinse 5.5-6 for the first few weeks. Supposed to be a starter charge of nutes in it and I run Gen Hydro nutes with the FloraNova base. No complaints about the Sunshine from me but not knocking Promix either just my 2 cents on a different brand.
Sunshine might be a little cheaper; I pay $35 Canadian for a bale (3.8 cu.ft.)

Just curious, there are a few styles of the HP (some with biofungicide, biostimulant, myco, also one in a black bag).

Does it matter which? Any I should avoid? Just wondering in case I get there and they only have a particular style.

Thanks.

Don't get any that have NUTES in them, think it's the black bag, but not sure

If you're thinking Promix All Purpose Potting soil I'd stay away from it. Or the Promix Potting Water Retention, which again, stay away. Get a bag that says either HP or BX on the bag. Those are the only two you should look for. If you're at a hydro store they'll likely have an in-house off brand. Mines NutriMix HP.

I wouldn’t write soil off, your a new grower using a bag seed and not happy with the results. Give it another go with some decent genetics

understandable. after the last grow though, i've realized that I don't want to deal with finding what soil to use (i know, FF xyz is best but I'm cheap), i had to deal with pests, i had to worry about over/underwatering, i had to worry about pH (seems promix is more forgiving), list goes on. I'd just like to give it a shot with a soilless medium this time around.
