Losing smell

Why do my buds get a grass smell after harvest wtf is this? It’s the second time. Does the smell come back or what?

They always lose smell. If you check the trics you will see that they are dead. Smell will come back week after week curing. 1 month after the cure and they will smell complete different. Don't worry.

Smell usually returns during cure if dried properly. A slow dry helps dissipate the chlorophyll smell/taste. Personally I hang dry for a couple of days, then brown bag til ready for jarring. Curing increases potency and brings back the skunk.

The plants you show hanging were harvested weeks too early
That will effect the stone and the smell
You need more patience to grow well

Hey man, I agree with the other posters, way to early. You have white pistils reaching out on all your buds, that is a sign of growth. You may get a better smell back with cure but only time will tell. The best thing you can do is next time wait until they are ripe, dry them slow and cure them for some time. Here is a pic, yours are defiantly the not ready pic.

Lmfaothat was good I had to pull that one early the first one I pulled was plenty ready Ik to wait until leaves are discolored and believe it or not that one had about 25% amber trigs on it

I did jump the gun on this one but I had too I was impatient about another plant thanks for the enlightenment @ColoradoHighGrower I’m still laughing

The first pic still has a lot of leaf material on the buds.

If you take the time and remove a lot of that, trust me, you will smell the good stuff. Especially in a jar, all those leaves will really mess with the smell of the actual buds.

It's unfortunate you had to chop early for whatever your reason, always a shame to put in all that effort and not be able to see it through. It happens though. The best you can do now is a long dry and long cure. The longer you cure the better it should get, hopefully it will get better for you as time goes by.

Yea I hope so dude Ik the smells before cure and during cure it’s not that hay smell it’s way different I barely had time to flush it. You think it would be better off pressed into rosin or ice hash?

I had a huge problem with this my first crop. Second one went perfect. Main reason was too early chop, second big factor was drying time. Shouldnt dry under 7-8 days

It also seems to be a little too warm in there. And the humidity is a little too low. Beyond being cut to early.
Is that a fan or a heater sitting on the diapers? Either way, if its in use its too close. Air circulation is important but you don't want to have fans or (God forbid) heaters blowing directly on your buds... It will make them dry too fast and leave you with that hay smell.

Oscillating fan. And that was the first 5 min I had them in there I’m in a Gulf Coast state next to texas idk if your familiar with our weather but it was the middle of summer about 100 degrees and humidity was 80 R.H. Outside it takes time to get everything right inside as well. As far as the fan being that close that’s how I try to compensate for the environment being the way it is I have a box fan that can fit in the door way about 6 ft from the hanging area is that a better option?

Yes or even the small oscillating fan but move it farther away and aim it away from the plants. You really just want the air in there moving around the buds not blowing directly on them. You should also find a way to exchange the air inside of your closet. You really need fresh air for them to do well.

I use to get that smell all the time until I learned to be patient and let the plant finish. I also noticed the strong grass/hay smell when I use to wet trim. Wet trim requires a longer slower dry time. With dry trimming I can dry in under 10 days. Once I started harvesting at the right time, I didn’t get that hay/grass smell ever again, even during the dry time. The strong skunk smell does dissipates a little bit during the dry, but comes back twice as strong during the cure. I’m willing to bet you probably harvested too early. Sometimes things happen where you have to chop early, at that point the grass/hay smell is to be expected.
