stay the fuck away from both, niether will fire a hortulux bulb.I have two new six hundreds ,one has not been fired and the other has one nine week flowering on it.Buy a nice sun system, these things dont save energy and they are hotter than my sun systems,I sent two galaxys back because they would not fire the eye.If I can save one person this headache this would be good.Every good grower I know says they are not going to switch till they fix all the problems. Two local store dont carry gallaxy and one has lumiteck. My 600 lumitecks run hot and have been shutting down.I just switched back to the old faitfulls.Hydro wholsale wont fix them , they gave me lumiteck support and no answer for two weeks.Fuck LUMITECK

I would trade two new 600s for a new 400 any day with cool tubes to match .You talking about bulb fryers they literaly cook your bulb even with a 4 inch fan pulling air off the tubes

I have read in to this and "Yes" lumatek did have problems with ballasts some time ago, however this has been rectified now...
There is the point of it frying some bulbs before its use by date... Basically its finding one that suits.... Philips bulb is suppose to be the match.
There was also problems with the ballast interfering with T.V. and Radio frequencies within a 20 meter zone... not sure how true this is though..

Digital ballasts are better than the magnetic ones... IMO

I just bought a Nextgen about a month ago. It's so frickin tiny, air cooled, fires MH or HPS, switchable 400W or 600W and can fire a bulb 65' away, so they say. It's suppose to be more energy efiecient and a percentage brighter also. I don't know about the later. Didn't meter the light level (yet) or a cost analyst on power consumpsution. (yet) I like the one I got so much, I'm going to get another one to replace my old Sun Suystems if that tells you anything. bongsmilie

I don't have a 1K light right now. I was going going to just try a couple 400's with the two ballasts and see if there is any difference. in footcandles between lights. I'll let you know if I get around to metering it out. :bigjoint:

I have had good luck with Quantum digital ballasts...

they are the first ones with the ability to dim HID bulbs... lumatek tried to rip them off but failed.

i got 2 600w ballasts and i love them 300w, 450w, or 600w and they run my hortilux bulbs beautifully!! ;-)
