Made my own fem beans but they won't germ???

Hey all,

So I just made a heap of feminized cotton candy beans using colloidal silver, and I just can't get them to germ. I have tried all the usual stuff, glass of water, paper towl, jiffy's (all in my heat dome which rarely fails me) and even tried just straight up outside in some seed raising mix and nothing!!

I mean they crack and throw a tap root but that's it. Beans were the best looking I've seen in a while (nice and big with good tiger stripes, better than what I usually buy from the banks) so I'm wondering if any one knows whats going on?

Bad genetics? Had no probs germinating the original cotton candy beans that I used to make them and I used 30ppm colloidal silver. Maybe my timing? I got know Idea!! I did do it out side but I'm just stumped why this has happened? Looks like I have to toss 150 good looking beans out.

Any ideas or advice from growers that have made there own fems?

Cheers guy's:)

Yeah they were past the 5 week mark, more around 8-9 weeks. And as I said they were very good looking beans.

Don't throw them out for that dump them in a cup stuff a small piece of kitchen towel in there and add some water and wait and see. Out of 150 seeds someones gonna grow. Remember some times seed take a week or more to germ.

Yeah I'll give them another week and see what happens but there looking more and more like duds to me. I usually have them up very quickly once there crack open.

But that's the problem, once cracked they refuse to continue to grow. Even in the heat dome which I find moves growth very quickly. Just gave half to a friend to see if he has any luck with them.

I'm used to this sometimes happening with bought beans, but these are fresh good looking beans so I'm stumped. Only thing I can put it down too is the genetics and maybe the pollen wasn't strong enough or something. Not sure :(

Thanks for your input Fanqula

Make sure they are cured for at least 3 weeks before trying to germ them. Just leave them at room temperature, they need some time to dry up. If they are too fresh you will get low germ rates.
Snap! I forgot about that. Good lookin out BT.

Thanks BT I only dried them for a week, so I'll leave them for another 2 weeks. Just pulled another 40 out and I'm guessing I still have another hundred left on that one tree (bottom branches so I'll give them a little longer) I have also got some sour d, blz bud, chem d, and c99 all pollinated with that cotton candy female turned male, so geez I hope this works as I'm so over buying beans LOL

Thanks guy's let you know how they go in a couple of weeks

Cheers

Yeah I'll be checking you out. I'm still down to trade beans 1 for 1. I got some fruity skunky indica S1 that throws just a few seeds. I need some variety and I'd rather trade than pay some offshore people for gear.

No worries hopefully they pop nicely in a few weeks

Cheers :)

This exact same thing happened with some fem beans a friend gave me. He even used silver water or something like that too. He gave me about 25 beans and so far only 2 have actually grew into something, 2 wouldn't break through their shells and the others just grew a little taproot and that's it.

Yeah it sucks ass big time. I did get 2 to finally start growing and I have a few more I'm waiting on, but I'm not putting any more in until I dry them out more. Some of the others did start to grow just very very slowly, so I'll see how they grow after a good dry as Bud Tip mentioned.

So far that's 2 out of 11 :( Just tossed the rest and waiting on 4 more in pots outside.

How is your friend going with germ rates? Did he dry the beans? What strain are they?

I honestly don't know, he's actually my boss and when I told him I got my medical card he dropped me a bag of his seeds. But he said there was 2-3 strains in there.

Hey all thought I would give an update on my beans as they have been drying for over a month now.

Germ rates are still shit using my usual germ method (paper towels, jiffy's ect in my heat dome) Still just throwing a tail and then they just rot!

But I put a few outside in a humidity dome and left them be and I'm getting really good results so far. I think I know what the problem is. :)

Simply put they don't like being to wet and under constant heat :) I get the feeling because they were made outside they need the cool of the night to activate properly. My theory is because the mother trees were getting the cool of the night, this has been passed on to the seeds.

I'm getting more and more beans popping up every night so it's definitely the cool period that's activating them :)

I've still got 400 beans that I don't have to toss which I'm extremely happy with.

So I will be doing one last order for the strains I actually want to keep around and that's it

No more buying beans after this order for me!!

Well............ LOL

Some seeds have to be frozen in order to pop open I don't know if you guys know that or not. try freezing some for a few days
