Maintaining terpene profiles post harvest

I think people get confused with the "burping".
Yes you need to dry properly and that's long and slow. I hang mine whole if i can. 2 to 3 weeks.
You don't want to over dry ur product but u also don't want it to wet. If u jar and within a 24 hr period the RH is in the high 60s then it needs to come out and dried again for awhile. If its mid 60s then yea a few days burping may bring it down to the lows 60s but that depends on the environment ur in. My winters are wet and humid for eg.
The main purpose of 'burping' the jars is to exchange air so the bacteria is kept alive and breaking down chlorophyll and doing whatever else it may do. After a couple weeks its time to just leave the air tight lid on.

Heat also kills terps so a nice temp in late flowering, drying and storage is a must IMO

I wet trim any fan leaves I can get at without disturbing the buds too much.
Keep my room at 50%RH and let it dry until it's nearly equalized with the room and the sugar leaves are super crispy
The crispy leaves are easy to trim. Doesn't even stick to my scissors like they do when wet. I start at the top of the bud and then I just chomp down with the scissor knocking off 5 or 6 small leaves at a time. You can really go at it because things aren't all sticking to everything.
If my scissors are getting gummy I'll dip them quick in a shotglass of 99% iso and flick off the excess, and immediately back to work. Don't worry about the ball of hash forming on the scissors, just keep going.

I then jar and will open the jars every day for an hour or two in the same 50% RH. It seems that the hay small gets trapped in the jars first week or two, and after opening the jars a few time they start to smell more and more dank.
