No.....I do some LST, like tuck a leave or at most tie back a main stem, but I never top autos. Their life is too short for that kind of stress in my opinion, that's just me though.
Ok, tbh they love it.
I’m on a few forums and I have a friend who is a HST/LST master and he’s pulling 160g + from 3gal and LST all autos. But I can give u my word that they will react well (not that my word means anything anyway lol)

I don't doubt that certain strains might react well and I would think that's the key. He tops all autos?

He tops them, he straps them down all sorts! If you’re not used to it u would be horrified but trust me he gets some big boy colas and nice yields. (Gotta add this is across multiple strains and multiple seed companies).

Update....there is enough uv to do damage lol....I only run uv a few hours a day now....some older leaves were showing signs of stress. I run ir with light schedule and uv a few hours a day, a few more in the flower tent. First pic is flower tent.

You can see yellowing leaves on bottom of plant closest, it's not fade lol. The oldest leaves were the ones showing signs of damage, rest of plant seems fine.

Again you can see a yellow leave in the right rear corner plant. 20230613_073324[1107].jpg

thats not uv damage.
This is what I'm talking about......the oldest leaves started looking like this and then worse. I've had it off full time for about a week now and plants look better.
Am I wrong?? If so I'll turn em back on full time....

I've tried to find pics of uv damaged leaves and not having any luck. Maybe it is just fade?? These are fastbud varieties and my first time growing them....:-|
uv back on with light schedule...might as well ride it till the wheels fall off.

Ive only seen it a few times; first sign the serrated edges of the leaves turn upwards, iirc. Cant remember who posted it.

Still running uv/ir with main light schedule in both tents.

I had a magnesium deficiency in almost all plants. Because of uv???

The Bruce Banner in top pic far left is frosty as hell and stinks to high heaven. The frostiness extends all the way down the buds. Excuse my damn cats hair.....I can't keep her out of the tent.

Go watch Basement Ganja on youtube. Timelapsed autoflower grows. You'll see, topping is great.

I doubt it being down to UV; generally Mag def with led lights i usually down to poor transpiration or just too much light/photosynthesis; plant just has a hard time keeping up. UV pushes blue light response which usually increase transpiration, ive actually seen people get rid of mag defs with uv, rather than causing it.
Also; youve added both UV and Far red iirc; both stimulate flower finishing and far red together with 660 red should increase photosynthesis, my not completely educated guess is that what you see is just plants finishing/senescence: smaller plants seem nice green while the bigger more developed plants have a bit of yellow.
Also remember that youre adding more light with the extra uv/far red watts.
Are they autos on long hours? You can usually run a few less watts rather than the recommended 35w/ foot.

I think your dead on.......Yes they are autos and was running 20/4. I was having trouble keeping them fed enough lol. No doubt they are maturing at an accelerated rate, I just wasn't expecting that much. Switched to 18/6 to try and slow things a little. Thanks for the eye opener :joint:

Early smoke test in.....definitely stronger! and aroma/taste seems better too although too early to tell for sure on that part. The plant I harvested had around 4 weeks under uv/ir, same plant grown without uv/ir is what I'm comparing to.
There is no doubt in my mind that the uv/ir brought a little something extra out of the plant.

Is it pointless to run the UR45 if your total light wattage is less than 730? I see these on ebay for like $60 bucks.

I run my main lights at around 600w.......I think it would be fine down to around 500w, after that the percentage of far red and uv would be getting out of hand....so yes it will be fine.
A person could also just run 1 bar for even lower main light combinations.
