I've got 10 mazar seeds that I got as freebies. Anyone have any experience with this strain? Is it a decent yielder? Hows the buzz? How did you like the total experience of this plant from growing to smoking?

I'm got limited room and am trying to decide what to grow in my grow I'm about to start.

I've got more strains that room and can't seem to make a decision. The mazar is the one strain I'm on the fence about growing this time around or not.

Nosaint, a guy that i buy from actually grows this strain and it is great. It is real fruitty and the smell is like nothing i have ever smelled before. Its like the smell of mazar is a new smell to me now. No exp of growing this but i would recommend it from what i have smoked.

Is it the landrace 100% indica that supposedly came from the Mazar-i-Sharif area of Afganistan?

I have some of those seeds. Been saving them for breeding (probably with Original Haze).

I haven't grown any yet, but would love to hear others' experiences.

Yeah I got 5 freebies of "mazar-i-sharif" from Seed boutique (awww whyd u get 10!)

Gonna grow em up pretty soon. from all the research that ive done, ive found only this:

Genetics: Traditional North Afghan charas cultivar
Type: Traditional landrace/pure-bred
Variety: Indica Giant
Height:
3-4 meters in natural outdoor environment in Mazar-i-Sharif.
Yield:
1.5 to 2 kg of dried flowers in natural outdoor environment
Aroma:
pungent, intense terpene aroma, classic Afghan, with some sweetness
Harvest:
early December to early January

Characteristics: Unusually large indica strain with classic wide leaved characteristics.
Grown around the desert towns of Balkh, Mazar-i-Sharif and Sheberghan in the far north of Afghanistan, close to the modern borders of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This Mazar-i-Sharif strain produces the legendary hashish known as "Shirak-i-Mazar" and "Milk of Mazar". The people of these regions are a patchwork of Turkic, Tajik, Afghan and Pashtun tribes, and the history of Mazar-i-Sharif strains is likely to be equally complex. In fertile and well-irrigated soils these vigorous giants are capable of reaching 4 metres in height or more, and will produce a similarly immense yield of intensely resinous flowers. Traditionally harvested in the first half of December with the onset of the brutal Central Asian winter, Mazar-i-Sharif plants will enjoy cold conditions, including snow, and will turn a deep blood red in low temperatures. Growers favour leaving harvest as late as possible, sometimes into early January. Sieved "Milk of Mazar" garda is very resinous and so can be hand-pressed to make charas; it has a distinctively pungent, sweet aroma and a dreamily mellow high. Over-indulgence produces a mind-warping, immobilising and narcotic effect.

Lets make this an official mazar-i-sharif thread, it seems a LOT of people have just started getting this strain as a freebie. Would be nice ot see how the plants grow, smoke, ect.

I ended up germing one of the 5 packs of mazar I got. All 5 mazar cracked in less than 24 hours and had the longest tap root of all the seeds I did in this batch.

They are in rockwool cubes now and we will see how it goes.

I'm for making this a mazar thread. Lets see everyones results. I'm going to cross this with something, just not sure what yet

well here you can some cousins of the mazzar a sharif, growing in the himalayas of india in a valley called parbhatti
these babys are sawn every year at around march-april and they get watered by the monsoon through may -september than the rain usualli stops
and the climate becomes dryer, very hot during the days 27-35 deg c ,(we are at about 3000 meters above sea level) and much colder at night at about 8 to 14c
on the first of october the charas season officially begins, and everyone in the villages up the mountains (and i mean everyone ,kids ,teachers, police men, everyone) stop every thing and go rubbing the plants for charas .

more later im hungry....

well they are not pure sativas any more
bcose many people here in the mountains have brought different kinds of seeds to try out as charas plants, so in about an hour walk in the mountain in october you will usually see at least 10 different strains and pheno's some will be as tall as 3 meters with many branches , and some could be about 50 cm tall with an emty stem all the way up and a small bud at the top (and these are very potent shit also...)

but you can distinguish the original himalayan strains from those , the original ones are usualy tall with a lot of branches looks like a pine tree in its shape , these ones usualy sprout in december even tho the ground is frozen and they can grow through the winter as well, the locals call
them junglly booty and they smell very spicy.

u cant smoke them as ganja bcose once their dried all the resin and pollen just falls of naturally.

Yeah, I was all excited after reading about the dp mazar. Then I realized that's not what I'm getting. In one of those threads I think someone described the smell as somewhere between burning rubber and dog poo. Other people describe a lemony smell, so maybe there are a couple different phenos.

I'll germ one and flower it young just to see, but I'm not too hopeful. Oh well, at least the price was right :blsmoke:
