Medical grow start up in Thailand

Hi all!

The Thai government has recently allowed us to grow 6 plants at home to sell back to them for producing CBD oil.

Mrs Tossagun (Thai) is a complete novice, and I've (UK) been doing a LOT of reading and watching youtube vids- but still a complete novice to growing. We've both enjoyed smoking it! We want to grow high quality plants, high CBD (12%+ ) with good yields (500g+ dried per plant.) Space is not an issue - we are growing legally, and we both have green fingers, a huge garden and lot's of trees/flowers/fruits and veg growing. We would like to keep the smell out though!

Family members can join up and form a social enterprise. Mrs Tossagun has a VERY large family. We are starting slow - only us right now, but the aim is to eventually build a family owned indoor grow room and be producing kilos in the hundreds, potentially opening a cafe/store when recreational use eventually becomes legal. Quality organic, family grown MJ.

Current set up:
1 Mars Hydro ts600 LED light (100w)
1 Mars Hydro ts1000 LED light (150w - arriving tomorrow)
Smart pots (fabric 5/10+15 gallon pots)
Greenhouse (see pic)
Reflective mylar (arriving tomorrow)
SCROG nets x2
Hatari portable air conditioner
1 Thai Stick plant
1 Lemon Haze plant

We originally bought the ts600 for us to grow and smoke our own stash, and I started the Thai stick & Lemon haze off - No scrog/LST or anything to increase yield- I topped the lemon haze because Mrs Tossagun loves it and I thought it would increase her yield a bit - but then the government announced 2 weeks ago that we can grow and sell to them (6 plants per household). So now our plans have turned into a business!

I've attached pics :) So my plan is to cover all the walls, floor and roof in mylar. I'm not sure how to keep the greenhouse cool though - the portable air conditioner lowers the temp 4/5 degrees or so but pushes the humidity up to 90%. Thailand is very hot - today it's 36 degrees celcius, and I can barely keep the greenhouse at 30. Dimensions of the greenhouse: Length 185cm, Width 120cm, Height 210cm. Greenhouse can be drilled through to create room for fans/ducting but I'm unsure what to get/do - charcoal filters and ducting sizes etc. I wanted to get a large grow tent but Mrs Tossagun splashed out on the greenhouse (around 1000 USD) to surprise me, and I'd like to try and make it work rather than tell her I think a grow tent would have been better. Love eh?

With regards to strains & lighting. Which strains should I be looking at and potential yields? We don't expect to be making a lot with our current lighting, hopefully with some topping/fimming and LST we can get close to the 2.2g per watt Mars Hydro advertise. We hope to be able to grow, sell and use the money to upgrade equipment each time. We have land we can build on eventually, but the aim is to use the greenhouse for a couple of grows and buy some commercial lights. One plant family start up!

Thank you very much for reading this, hopefully with your expertise and support, we can be successful!

Isn't it better to grow outdoors? Just thinking aloud
I thought it might be too hot outdoors, it can get over 45c (113f). I read that when it gets hotter than 30c you start getting problems. We get 6 plants, but then we can grow another 6 once we've given the buds to the public health office. So growing indoors means we can keep going all year round. I'm hoping we can get 3 or 4 harvests a year by using clones instead of starting from seed each time. We're going to switch over to hydroponic in a few months, once we've got enough cash and a commercial light. Also, as we're starting out at home we'd prefer to keep it inside and secure - and smelless!
white plastic works just as good as mylar. Cheaper too. Id grow them inside then put out in summer. Will get very big.
Mylar was really cheap to buy, In Thailand you order a 3m roll of the stuff and it's got a sticky back - so no taping or gluing required! Cost me around 4 dollars for 2 rolls. Should come tomorrow so I'll be busy sticking it all over the place!
I don't know how to 'like' or 'thank' your posts - is there a widget somewhere I can click?

I've never tried growing in hot countries but was in India one time and it hit 50 C and was dry as dust, was constantly covered in a sticky film of sweat

Well where does the thai weed grow outdoors there?
They grow in Chiang Mai, in the mountains where it's cooler. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near CM. I'm in the eastern part of the country close to the Laos/Cambodia borders. They have a huge weed farm growing Thai stick outdoors, and the wife and I were watching this chap on youtube last night. He has so many problems growing outdoors - he started them indoors in a PVC greenhouse and moved them outside. He's getting around 600 kilos of bud but he has issues with bud rot and pests. Huge trees though, twice the size of the guy in the video.

Cool stuff! I wish you luck.
Thanks :) My wife was just talking about extending the back of our house and having a proper grow room set up - very excited right now!
But first we have to get a good grow out of this set up. Do you think the greenhouse is workable, or should I try and persuade her to invest in a tent - I have room for a 5ft by 10ft grow tent.

Outta curiosity, what do you pay for electricity and what is the Government paying for your product?

Running a house + the small greenhouse outside cost us 1,200 THB last month - around 38 USD.

There's a scale. Depending on what grade your finished bud is, and it's CBD content. It ranges from 30,000 - 45,000THB - around 970 - 1,450 USD

I don't have any idea of the political and legal climate of cannabis in Thailand. But if you do know and everything is legal then go for it.

There are some things that you should do first. Slow down. Sit down and think about what your plans for the future are. Think about things like providing power for your lights. What kind of lights you're going to use. Are you going with a large greenhouse? Or are you going small with a 5 x 10 tent?

Taking the time to figure everything out, write out a business plan, etc... Will pay off later on.

There are many knowledgeable individuals on this forum. Once you decide what you're going to do some questions on these subforums will likely yield the answers you need.

Great advice! Thanks.

The law has only just changed, around 6 weeks ago so it's all very new and exciting for everyone in Thailand now. All of my wifes friends have been asking where to get seeds, so they've been buying thai stick - brickweed from dealers and growing from the seeds in the brick! They're all growing outdoors - and it's not the season for growing because it's too hot right now - they should be planting in the rainy season when its cooler. We want to start off well, armed with some knowledge. Thanks again!
