21st Dec - we’ve had great weather for a week and the girls have packed on veg. Getting 11 hours sunlight with moving around the balcony. The plant dolly’s are brilliant.

I’m slow watering every day 4 litres each…no runoff.
Been using all my bonsai wire to pull down the high branches. Works really well and fast.

One week update pics…recon they have added close to 3/4 of a foot in that time!
Yesterday was 38 degrees C (100 F) so I watered 4 times and flushed out some of the nutrient buildup which I think is a good thing as I’ve been feeding every week and have never had runoff when watering.
I’m gunna back off the feeding and only do 2 more before flowering in 4 weeks time.
I bought some liquid potash which I’ll use from the 2nd or 3rd week into flower…I think the soil will have enough nitrogen to last till harvest but I’ll probably do one veg nutrient feed sometime into flower.

Dec 30 - was getting very worried that the girls would pass the height of the 6 foot balcony screen which obviously I cannot let happen. The girls are 4.5 foot now and there’s still 3 weeks of veg and the flower stretch to come. So a RIU member (thanks buckaclark) suggested supercropping. Being a first time grower I think I’ve done just ok. Wasn’t sure where on the branch to bend so took a guess. I’ve done all 3 girls. Some branches split so I taped them. Some went too floppy so I’ve supported them in place from above and below with bonsai wire.

7th Dec - Final weeks of veg. Been doing a lot of LST to totally clear the side closest to the screen…I don’t want flowering branches facing that way. Plants have no probs bending/pulling branches. I now have 3 sided growth; out to the sides and away from the screen.
The leading stems that I supercropped have grown super hard knuckles, quite an amazing recovery. I continue to supercrop all the smaller stems every day…not extreme bending, more just to break the membrane to strengthen them.
I’ve continued a Neem spray every week but have stopped feeding. The liquid fertiliser I have a nitrogen high and I think there is a buildup in the soil. I’ll keep an eye out for yellowing leaves but don’t expect any. I’ll start the potash late Jan.

11 Jan - Mealybugs! Found 3 adults after a good look under leaves. Couldn’t find any more so it’s not drastic but I’m at full battle stations.
Done 2 high dose Neem sprays and a Neem soil soak over the last 4 days. I’ll do another Neem spray in 2 days. The Neem makes me very itchy scratchy but it’s a small price to pay.
The girls are really close to flowering with white pistols starting to appear, so I need to make sure I have everything under control before it’s too late to spray.

Exciting times! I can see stacking spots on the big branches and all the girls are really filling out…the smaller branches are now thickening. I’ve counted over 50!!

As a gg grower I would like to say I see picture after picture of thirsty plants. Fabric pots are best for hydro or automated drip systems. I would bump your feed by 100 ppm and keep increasing until you see actual clawing. Thirst and weak plants is as I see. GG4 is a beast in soil.

I suggest some defoliation as well.

Best wishes.

They look fine, well done so far.Veg feed til After the stretch Imo.
Thanks Buck, I’ll be switching back to the veg food (seems to be unanimous advice). 37 in Melbourne today so will water 3 times and will light feed with Powerfeed on last watering.

Good call on the light feed,if you feed flower notes early or too much you will not have a recourse if things go sideways. If you feed light ,you can always give more.GL
