Melbourne GG4 Balcony Grow

Every article, blog, grow diary and comment on Gorilla Glue #4 states something different in regards to height…and there is mixed information on when and how long the stretch is. Some say the stretch starts and lasts 3 weeks from when it shows white pistols, some say the stretch starts when bud starts to form. Some say they stretch 35% some say 100%.
All I can do is wait and see what MY GG#4 girls will do in MY environment.
I’m now learning every grow is different…but most info is indoor info…most growers aren’t doing GG4. Mine came from seeds, which technically don’t exist, so who the fuck knows what they really are…mine are outdoor, getting 12 hours of direct Australian sunlight.
I think for me, and for now, I will take things day by day and not be proactive.

View attachment 5251196Plants on left are gg x sunset sherbet, this was 90 days growth this past year. One flowered early and was 8 ft.The other went to 10 ft.Topped them multiple times.cheers
Wow man truly amazing work!!. My girls are in 15 gallon (55 litre) grow bags. When I was deciding what size bags to get I made a thread and asked RIU…everyone who responded said I’d get small plants in 15 gallon bags…I guess compared to your beauties mine are small but I never thought They’d reach the screen height.

I did very little, amended the soul with bone meal and couple cups lime and a bale of peat and composed manure.Only watered/ fed 4 times .

Pushed the LST too far this morning and split a main upper stump. Tied it up tight with tape and gave her some Seasol to ease her her stress. AA89D106-F16B-4240-AC9F-3E0DBE68EBC0.jpeg
She is a healthy plant so I’m hoping she will recover.
Glass half full thought…it may slow the growth down which would mean I don’t have to LST so much to compensate for the height issue.

Jan 27 - All is well. Recon I’m into 2nd week of flower and I think the stretch is slowing.
Still killing a few Mealybugs every day…can’t seem to eradicate fully so a daily search under leaves and stem’s continues, as well as Neem sprays.
Did a tap water ph test and it shows 6.5, very nice!
Feeding with a lower nitrogen version of PowerFeed; Nitrogen 10.0%. Phosphorus 2.0%. Potassium 9.0% and will swap to Potash soon.

31st Jan - substantial growth since last post. I’m handling the height issue with daily LST tightening and have 15 meters of bonsai wire in use. Needed more leverage so taped a broom to the tallest girl and will find other poles for the other 2 if needed…the wider tie point makes it much easier to pull down and it’s far less tension on the branches. If I grow again I’d make wider trellis.
I’m pretty sure the Mealybugs are gone but wouldn’t be surprised if I find more…but I’m getting to know there hiding spots now.
The flowering is coming on nicely. Absolutely no smell yet.

Hard to tell what’s going on and when.
2 have, or are re-vegging. They may have reverted back to flower all ready.
The other one I’m not sure if it did re-veg as she looks completely different and the bud sites are stacking up…and to me (a first time grower) she looks like it should.
My finish timeline is important and if I get one girl to harvest on date I may ditch the other 2, especially if they look like being a month behind.

Yeah I’m not the type to procrastinate. I’m getting rid of the 2 that would need be harvest way behind the one girl that didn’t re-veg. One this week cause it’s bin day and I’ll do the other one next Wednesday. Really I only need one…I’m not a seller and will have more than enough to last me a year.
Being a renter I have worries,..
1. My neighbours that I share the balcony with (separated by the screen only) are putting their apartment up for rent, today real estate agents started coming n going and soon they’ll have open inspections. From their side you can see my tops.
2. I have my real estate agent coming in 3 months for my annual inspection.
3. I can only dry in my bathroom so need to do a single dry…having plants ready 4 weeks or more apart is too much.
4. Three is punishable, 1 is personal use.

For such a large plant she sure looked small when chopped.

It’s the day after the chop and I feel good about it…having one less plant makes a huge difference to my situation both mentally and space wise. The balcony has more room for the 2 girls to get max sun and the neighbours (and any of their visitors) can’t see my tops now. I’m going to keep the girl that re-vegged, but if her late flowering causes issues I will ditch. The haul I’ll get from 1 is more than I vape in a year…the second one (the expendable one) is to give away so I’m happy to have or have not. I’m also thinking I’ll dry her outside in my drying rack covered with blackout fabric cause I can’t do a second dry in the bathroom. All in all, growing in a rented apartment has its drawbacks.

Catch up post.
14th Feb - Found a few more Mealybugs. I can’t seem to eradicate so have to control. I’m out of Neem Oil so did a spray with Apple Cider vinegar and water.

15th Feb - Full flowering girl has lots of yellowed bottom leaves. The girl that is slower is lush green. Did a big defoliation and took off all yellowing leaves. 2 hours later lots of leaves looked pale that weren’t before. Think it’s a nitrogen issue so gave both veg nutrients.

16th Feb - The flower first girl still looks pale. Did a kelp foliage spray on both.

17th Feb - The girl that is 3 weeks ahead of the other looks healthy(ish) but leaves are pale compared to her sister…and more lower leaves are showing brown spots. Shit!! I’ve just realised the Apple Cider Vinegar wasn’t diluted enough and although it killed Mealybugs (they dropped dead and fell off) the Apple Cider was too much for her. Did some research and recon I have messed with the soil PH so gave both Epsom Salt.

In general the girl weeks ahead in flowering looks good and has buds everywhere that are fattening daily. The other plant looks extremely healthy but is well behind her sister’s flowering.
Both have been trained very wide (approximately 7 foot) to keep away from the screen and into the sun slit. They are so wide that I wouldn’t have been able to have 3 so killing 1 was definitely the right decision.

Here’s pics of leaves with issues, full plants and flowers.

All is good with both girls…recon the faster flowering one may be ready by end of this month.
The apartment next door, that I share the balcony with, is up for rent and the owners called me yesterday saying that their Realtor has had open days and 2 couples wouldn’t apply because of the giant pot plants growing on my side. I’m praying to the old gods and the new that no one decides to call the cops, I’d hate to loose my girls so close to the finish.
The smell is potent and thick…as with the billion fat-arse buds!133C5C11-8DDA-4964-AA60-D3D5B9A11EB4.png

Not an update just pretty pictures. Recon I’m looking at 20 ounces per plant. The one that I feature most in this diary has nice tight flowers and is perfect looking, the other one is 3 weeks behind and looks like airy flowers…she’s a messy girl with branches sideways. She’d be 8 foot if I hadn’t trained her sideways.
