you werent using a laser one were you? you said pointed, if it wasnt a laser one, how far away was your thermometer? thanks pan
Yes the thermometer was a digital device,its range is from 30 below zero to 800 degrees,its a very expensive model i use with my work,i took the reading's from various distances,its a point & shoot device much like a radar gun that cops use.

I know from experience with this model over the last few years of daily use that anything within 5 feet will give an acurate measurement,any distances within that range will/should all show the same measurements.

ya, ive seen them b4, they are accurate. i guess i was wrong then.... but!!!!!!! but were both of those bulbs of the same age? after time a hid light will lose output, im not sure if it holds the same watt rating over time or not..... just a thought. lol

Hmmm,good question,i bought my lights in 3 phases 90 days apart from the first round then about 30 days the last time,there is a possibility that there is a 4 month use difference between the systems.
