When I first started this grow I wasn't expecting much.

Parts:

Reflective duct tape for sealing leaks
Digital Thermometer
Light Timer
Shop light with hood and clamp (hood removed)
3 1-2 light socket adapters
4 100w equiv CFLs
Miracle Grow potting soil
Plastic pot
A tarp to put over the cabinet I am using
Some cabinet with adjustable shelving and a bar for hanging the light
A seed from the bottom of a bag

Setup lights, programmed timer (12/12 from seed), prepared soil and the pot. Germinated the seed in a paper towel and placed it into the soil. I left it in the dark until it sprouted (didn't notice right away, so it was in the dark for awhile and stretched a good 2 inches with the first leaf on the top. Turned on the light+timer, regular watering, no nutes, etc.

Just soil, water, and light.

The seed was started germinating on 9/12/08
Now it is 12/5/08.

It's flowering! I was worried when she started flowering because there was about 4-5 bud sites and they were all TINY, over the last few days they have started to developing into a cola. The main stem is nearly consumed by the bud sites now, I can only hope that it will keep on developing more considering I feel I am still a ways off before harvest. Although, it is getting very tempting to pick a little piece off and give it a test (I am resisting though, should I be?).

Any comments and/or suggestions are appreciated!

Anyways, after this plant is done I am going to move up a bit. Switching to a cheap grow tent/box (if I can find one that fits my budget), and a few of those cheap $20 150w HPS lights. A bigger pot, better, seeds, etc.

I would like to veg a new plant from a better seed in the aforementioned grow tent with one of the 150w HPS lights. While it is vegging purchase a second grow tent and put the other 150w HPS in it and do a mini SOG. That is all in the future though, back to the current grow.

Nice, all the high wattage CFLs I have found seem to have the mogul socket instead of the standard. Next time around I am just going to go with a small HPS unit, more lumens for the same amount of money :)

I honestly don't remember, but they are the 100w equivalent bulbs. I believe they are somewhere between 20-40 actual watts.
It should say somewhere on the bulb. I ask because you probably need more light. A good rule of thumb is 100W(actual, not equivalent) per plant. I'm sure you can continue through harvest with your current lights, but you'll get fatter buds with more light.

I agree on the getting more lighting, which is why I am going to be switching to HPS for my next grow. Thanks for the advice though!

I dont know what cheap $20 hps your talking about, if your talking about the bulb itself then it will not work in a regular light socket, you need a balast for it to work, and also next time you really need to use nutes, just the soil alone will not do a good job, this is a must not a thought

I'm getting ready to sacrifice one of my plants early (have nine going) to have some smoking bud. I still have another month to go. I have also picked buds off early before with no damage to the plant.

try some nutes next time. something like miracle grow. use regular water, and then miracle grow solution every other time. just rotate. this will prevent over nuting, cuz u flush with the regular water. also use a flowering nute, when flowering, and that stronger light, and ur buds will swell! sweet grow!!!!!!! way to go

dont pick any bud off. its wont even get you high/medicated, whatever you like to call it. and it will taste like shit.

not saying ur wrong but a good rule of thumb is 3000 lumens per square feet.(this is minimum for good results) 100w cfl is rated a 1600 lumens @ a 23w power consumption. the sixty watt equivalent generate 800 lumens @ a 13w power comsumption. the only problem i have had with the 100w equiv. is heat( larger ballast, larger heat) can be solved in larger grows with exchanging the air. nonetheless, cfl's are the way to go for low power usage and small grows during vegging. (they dont compare during flowering to the hid lighting, as far as dense buds are concerned) good luck, and puff, puff pass!
