Theories are collections of facts. Proof would require absolute certainty, which cannot exist (brain in a vat), therefore, science is the most logical system of determining reality available. Would you agree?
So you reject the ample proof that has been shown by experiments with the theory of gravity?

And I stand by it

Believing in anything not proven to be true is unreasonable.

I don't believe in the Big Bang theory, the theory of evolution or the theory of gravity, I accept them as fact
Hhmmm, you don't believe in them but you accept them as fact?

Well, do I need continue?

A collection of facts leads to facts. Theories are a collection of observations.

Are you not certain that the earth is round and the earth revolves around the sun?

True science, yes, but there is as much corruption in modern science as there is in politics and religion.

corruption? by who? mostof "Corrupt" science is made from fundie religious folk who want to counter evolution with "creation museums" and other nonsensical psuedo-science like "Intelligent Design". If you are making fake science, somebody smarter than you will call you out on it the moment its gets any traction. The beauty of Peer review is that you get called out on your shit when you are wrong. Science has inner politics of its own, but what wins in the end is the better idea.

Nah, no need bro, it's useless. Even though it's a fact that Barack Obama has been a complete failure, young Pad does not believe it!
he was not a complete failiure, Bush was a complete failure. If Gore were elected, its likely we would have no obama, because america wouldn't have needed much "Change".

I just said I accept the theory of gravity, go back and reread

'believe' is not the correct word to use. Beliefs don't exist in science

I'm not certain about anything, and neither are you whether you think you are or not. How can you be certain your brain isn't sitting in a room being sent electrical signals by a computer to make you believe life as you experience it is true?

No there isn't, the scientific method as well as the scientific process is designed for exactly that purpose.

Corrupted by whoever supplies their funding. Maybe the better idea wins out in a perfect world but it doesn't always win in this one.

I see his failiure and raise you a Wilson and a Roosevelt.

You say "he was not a complete failure" like he has more to do, to be considered a complete failure.

Bush was a failure? I agree. Gore would have been, too.

Change?... careful what you wish for.

No organized religion is harmless. They are all enemies of truth and reason, and cause much more harm than they provide good. The degree of harm is where the argument lies, some (Christianity, Islam) clearly more than others (Buddhism)
no organized religion is harmless? thats a very broad blanket statement.

a religion that only gives edicts to it's believers and adherents can ONLY harm it's adherents, and sice such a religion would be (and is) voluntary any who wish to stop being adherents may do so without repercussions.

heres an example: the amish.

they live their own quiet lives, not pushing their shit on anybody, and any amlette who decides in his rumspringa that he likes coca cola and miniskirts may choose to remain here among the "english" and if he wishes to return to the amish community later he still can.

Harmless.

harmless to you, and voluntary to those who choose to be a member.

amish
mennonites
Unitarians
zora astrians

pretty harmless

And the Amish and the Mennonites actually push you out and let you decide if you want to be a member

And when they party
They fucking throw down

Perhaps it was general, but every organized religion practices self deception in order to quell the cognitive dissonance reality provides. Self deception is harm regardless of if it's voluntary. Plenty of things can be harmful and still voluntary, for instance heroin or cocaine.

Also, from my understanding of the Amish, there are serious repercussions for leaving the group.

you practice self deception every time you jerk off homey.

a little self deception can make an unpleasant world just a little brighter for 20 or 30 minutes or untill somebody knocks on the door.

reading a good novel is also self deception. watching a good movie, self deception. we all practice willing suspension of disbelief all the time.

that girl your chatting with on aim... shes a 50 year old stevedore from cleaveland with three days stubble and a boner.

if you leave the amlette society your an english until you return and take up the black again. thats all.

fewer repurcussions than voting republican in the black community.

None of your examples are analogous to my example. The self deception in organized religion causes enough people to replace reality with whatever their particular flavor mandates to affect others that don't share the same beliefs. It causes people to deny the theory of evolution, to organize against abortion rights and murder doctors who perform them, to oppose equal civil rights for minorities and homosexuals, etc. The list is endless. Watching porn, reading a book or watching a movie does none of those things.

Self deception in regards to organized religion is dangerous. Where is the benefit of believing the world is only 6,000 years old, or that humans didn't evolve like every other life form on Earth? What about believing that homosexuality is a sin punishable by death? Or that women are second class citizens in a mans world? This stuff is dangerous and I don't see how any human being could disagree without such mandates from a supposed omnipotent being.

The Amish fall into the exact same category, it doesn't matter if they don't commit terrorist attacks like other organized religions do, they're still just as harmful as the rest because they abandon reality for belief.

And yes, it reaches my front door. Is that fair to me?

IMO, you need to narrow your definition of "organized religion".

You seem to be hung up on Christianity.

Actually I was also referring to Islam, "What about believing that homosexuality is a sin punishable by death?". In Christianity, homosexuals are ostracized but not exterminated.

I use the word "organized" for a specific reason, those religions that are not organized are much less harmful because they have much less political influence.

Ok, so you've covered two religions. How many are there?
