MOCC Farmers market (grand opening Feb 10, 2013)

So the local MOCC (Macomb Oakland Compassion Club) has now secured a new building for their Farmers Market once again. The location of the club is going to be in Hazel Park. they have a new 3000sq' building with a kitchen and plenty of parking. The MOCC is a GREAT bunch of people with one thing in mind, helping those in need of quality medicine and help.

below is a copy/paste of the thread on the MOCC site pertaining to the FM.

"Our MOCC members asked and wanted farmers markets. Well we looked hard and long and finally found a place to hold our Social and Farmers Markets at. This will be our temporary home until we find a owner who is willing to lease us a building full time. Located in Hazel Park at 23839 John R. Rd. Hazel Park, MI 48030. The building is 3,000 sq ft with kitchen. Wireless internet included. Caregivers tables and chairs are provided. We have plenty of space to just chill at. Right now we are renting the building weekly and will hold the farmers market every Sunday from 4- 8 pm. Caregivers can arrive 30 minutes early (3:30pm). Caregivers fee for all the month of February is a suggested 10% donation back to the club at end of night to help cover expenses. No entrance fee for MOCC members. If you are a non MOCC member suggested entrance fee is $5. Please come on out on the 10th and check us out. Plenty of public parking"

HARD CARDS ONLY + valid Mi. ID. 21 day paperwork will NOT be accecpted for entry. sorry.

Don't want to stir up anything and shit on your thread, but have you guys ran this by any local LEO? County? Prosecutors office?

I'd love to stop by, but I have always been under the impression that Oakland county is not receptive to this kind of stuff, and they like to fuck with people.

i dont have the answer for that, sorry. Mi law states P2P transfers are 100% legal, but only by donation, not by direct sale. so if this is good for the STATE of Mi, then the Counties HAVE to abide by STATE law. no?

x2 ive been on their forum for about 2 yes now, been to 5 or so FM, and all went vvery well. well organized, and safe/secure.

Well, P2P transfers are legal .... depending on who you ask. A court case just went in favor of that, but there was no money exchanged in that instance from what I understand.

Oakland county has been very aggressive in raids, and prosecutions, so I was just wondering if you guys cleared this with any local authorities. I really do love the farmer market concept. It's the best distribution model, imo. I'm just worried that you guys will get harassed doing it in Oakland county.

legal as long as there is absolutely no exchanging of cash. by sale or donation. and no oakland county is not mmj friendly. personally though i'd like to go check it out and maybe meet some folks but i'm gonna wait till they rule on p2p sales and donations before vending any wares

Well MOCC is a tight org that doesn't play games with people from all I have seen anecdotally. I always thought a CC should be run like I think they are. But I also worry about Bouchard and Patterson and Co. Both are in AG's pocket and both are ignorant on medical weed. But Bouchard's boy was at the center of the cases thrown out; so they may rethink their approach given the hard card/State ID requirements. They have other problems as well that intersect here: Oakland County is decidedly swinging Democratic electorate. Last election the only top County positions held by Republicans were Sherriff and County Exec. When the long-time Drain Commissioner was ousted in November notice was served to the Republican dinosaurs: represent our interests or we will pick someone who will. Couple that local angst with the national reality the GOP faces and it's possible they will have a come to Jesus moment here. Bouchard wants to be Governor: he needs to moderate if he wants 2 out of 3 voters, (County and Statewide), who passed the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act. It's probable he realizes that fact.

i know we are getting a littl ot, but i am one for safety over getting busted any day for doing something i have a state legal right to medacite the way i choose.

what i dont get is this, if federal trumps ALL, state trumps county, county trumps city, then why cant Oakland county follow the State laws (passed by VOTERS) pertaining to medicinal mj? if a FM can go on for 2+ yrs (jackson) w/o any issues, why cant other other counties follow the same route?

Well if you want to follow your logical then fed law trumps all and medical marijuana is still illegal. Ultimately it's up to he elected prosecuter how the law will be interpreted. It's up to a judge to decide otherwise. The question is Who wants to spend the money to challenge the prosecuter to tell him he is wrong. Frankly I don't have that kind of coin and would probably lose my job in the fight.
Anyone vending at a Farmers market should have the expectation that the people running it have ensured that it's safe for them to be there. How hard is it to make a phone call? The people running it may be ready to go to court and fight their case but is that something vendors are ready to do?
Also, do they have a lawyer they've consulted? Did this lawyer give them reassurance that they are within the law?

Shoot maybe one of us can call or email the prosecutors office and ask if we will be arrested.

good point. im not 100% sure. im not affiliated with MOCC, but i have been a part of their forum for over a year. everything has been positive wiht that group, and always looking to better the mmj community.

really tempted to head out there since it's in my area and try to get rid of the extra honeycomb I have. I wonder if it's like GC3 where I can bring a dabber rig with me and dab with other patients?

You make some great points Marty. The tide does seem to be shifting.

I'm still a little sketchy with Oakland county though. That is the LAST county in MI that I would consider doing something like this in. If they are the MACOMB/Oakland county compassion club, then I would be focusing on setting up somewhere in Macomb county for the time being.
