Mogul base interchangable?

I just set up a cooltube for my 150. I used the huge ceramic mogul socket that came with my kit. If I was to purchase a 250 or 400 watt HPS ballast replacement, could I use my current Mogul base? It's the 5k pulse kind from HTG, so I was thinking that would be good all the way up to 1000w, right? Just need to correct ballast?

Yep a mogul base is the same for 1000 watt or 150 watt.
Most light setups use a 5k base. Some of the odd size lights use a different base.

Just be very careful when doing wiring, setting up timers. As Im sure you know a fire can ruin your day.
I have 1000 watt lights, but I only use 400 or less these days. I just feel more comfortable using less wattage.
A 400 watt is an excellent size, it doesnt pull a lot of amps and you can get good results.
Good luck

Absolutely man. All wiring done with the pro. twist ends and elec. tape to keep everything seperated and clean. No point spending time and money and then being careless. I think I'll bump to 250 or 400 for my small cab grow next time, now that the cooltube is in PLACE! I mean, anyone can grow well with 1000w, but how to maximize yeild and quality with 400, that's art. And I'm not competing for anything, it's a small personal grow, so why add the complexity of huge lights in a small space?

theres only 4KV and 5KV pulse rated mogul sockets. the 5KV are good to go for just about any bulb. Most mogul sockets these days are all 5 KV. The older 4KV bases should really only be used with MH bulbs. MH bulbs require less of a voltage spike to ignite (compared to HPS) hence the lower rated base.
