much help as possible on my new grow room design please,thanks

So im currently using a 1.6x1.6x2m grow tent with a 600w hps,i have no spare rooms and the attic is to small to put so ive had it in my bedroom for the past year,its beginning to become a big nuisance the girlfriend has had enough she has to shimmy along her side of the bed to get in the bed and and also get dressed and makeup'd in the toilet lol... so the only option i have is too take it down and convert my boiler cupboard,which is 1.1x1.1x1.6 which i currently have a 200w cfl in there for my mother and clones,it has box below the cupboard around 1.1x1.1x1m which i could cut threw and put a door init for my new clone box,ideally that part would be great to flower as theres no hot boiler in there but the height isnt enough for my flowering.

so i was thinking of using the mylar sheeting of the tent and to staple it around the inside of the boiler cupboard boxing it of separate from the boiler,and using my 4"inline 2 speed tt fan to run ducting from my windowsill pumping air in threw from the bottom section(the clone box) up threw to the boiler cupboard(flower room) and using my 4"carbon filter either pumping the hot air out to my bedroom or the attic,i was thinking if i was to pump it to the attic it might buildup with quite some hot air which might get picked up by the cops in the helicopters? i was also planning on using a 400whps with a digital ballast for the flower room,this is where im stuck,will i need a cool tube? i dont wanna buy all this new equipment and find out my temps are sky high and it was a waste of time,or do i go with fluorescents?

i have tried looking up for boiler cupboard grows and havent found much at all, thanks for reading this and any knowledge on this idea would be great thanks!

dude i dont know what you grow in that tent using only 600W, is it lettuce or something? cuz mj needs way more light to cover that area, like 1400w. you can do 600w in a 3x4' area, more than that and you will be under lit. you can use a shelf or whatever small space like that attic for veg and clones. it's a shame, make up in the toilet, shimmy,...

to the op..40-50 watts/sq. ft. is the number to shoot for. When in doubt...add more.

Firstly, don't butcher your tent, what if circumstances change and you want it back out?


Is this boiler cupboard still in operation?

How much of the 1.1x1.1x1.6 does the boiler take up?


Assuming its an OLD boiler cupboard no longer in use.
If it were me, I would keep your 600w system, extend into the lower portion to give you 1.1x1.1x2.6.

This extra height will help with temperature control.

Cooltube would probably be best unless you can find an air cooled reflector that would fit the area and allow ducting to be connected with as little angles as possible. Remember every 90 bend is a 20% loss in fan efficiency.

Duct up into the attic.


Its fine up there. I've blown mine up there for 4 years and when I got busted it wasn't because of heat signature.

I did however add extra ventilation into my attic to stop extra humidity being a problem.

What m3/h is your 4" TT?

You'd probably want something in excess of 400m3/h.


Cold air intake from a cool area such as window etc will help to keep things cooler along with either mounting your ballast outside somewhere or mounting it the roof of the cupboard could work also.

There is also another way which could utilise 2 fans.

1 fan for your air cooled lighting system with its own intake so that no grow cupboard air passes through the system
1 fan for exhaust and filtering the air.

This second way would see you with much better temperature control and would probably be able to intake your ambient house air rather than direct cold air.

Just 2 possibilities.

That way you could bonsai your mother into a small box in your bedroom keeping the entire cupboard for flowering.

yeah the boiler is still in operation,and that is the space i have to play with even with the boiler been in there the boiler sits further back,and i got confused with my tent size its 1.2 x 2m height and i have quite a few temp problems in my tent at the moment running a 600w that why i thought i couldnt do it in this cupboard especially with the boiler kicking out some heat do you think it will have to be cfls?,my in fan is 187 mw/h high speed and 145 m3/h low speed but dont mind having to purchase a new upgrade,and with the mother in a box in my bedroom,she tends to kick out quite a big amount of odor lol i wouldnt want her smelling the house out but that would of been a good idea,im just finding it hard for space,i only want 2-4 plants maybe 2 in some nice big 18 litre pots or something?,thanks for your help mate

That fan is your entire problem!!

In a 1.2x1.2x2 tent with a 600w you should have at the minimum a 280m3/h 5" fan.


I would first and foremost consider something like a SYSTEM AIR RVK 6" or RUCK 6" fan that push out almost 500m3/h.

I use a 480m3/h RVK 6" with my 400w system. Temp controlled during winter and runs flat out during summer to keep my 1.1x2x2.5 cupboard under control. I use an open reflector.

With a fan upgrade and air cooling along with duct up to attic and ambient intake air, with ballast outside and bingo job done on temps!

As for odour, RHINO PRO, CAN are reputable filters. Just make sure the filters m3/h is greater than the fans m3/h.
