Music and marijuana, a growing urban legend

Ive been growing my first setof plants for a month now and ive had this kinda silly superstition that if i played music continuously during the light part of their daily cycle, that theyd grow better ahaha. Anyone know if theres any hard scientific fact about this? or am i jsut waisting electricity playing anipod doc for 18 hours a day.

the only thing playing music could possibly do for your plants is strangthen the stems because of the vibrations. Plants dont have ears lol.

obviously they dont have ears, but its a well known urban legend that if you talk to plants and play peaceful music they are "happy" and grow better. obviously "urban legend" is the key word here, but i was just asking peoples opinions and if they know of any hard scientific fact behind this.

It's not an urban legend. There was a guy in San Diego the proved that a pleasant atmosphere V unpleasant atmosphere that plants grew better with the good vibes. This was back in the 70's

I encourage you to find a reputable source saying this was proved... Simply it hasn't been proved. There were times where plants with music did grow better, but then in the end it was other factors that caused the better growth.

if you want to see sort of a "real experiment" go watch mythbusters. they did an episode on this. not scientific by any means, but its fun to watch mythbusters and watch things go BOOM.

mythbusters did a study on this and it was proven that heavy metal is the best type of music for your plants... and yes they found that playing ocntinuous music for your plant will make it grow slightly faster. not sure what kind of p;lants they grew... i dont really remember as i as probably a little baked when i watched it. i can promise im not going to play a shitload of metal for my plant though...

edit: maybe i didnt remember correctly... i had thought they proved it did help and that heavy metal was the best type of music to play...

Mythbusters isn't exactly science. They are hollywood stunt set builders pretending to be sorta, kinda scientific.

Real science would be boring to watch. It requires hundreds of tests before even an educated hypothesis can be formed...which will then be challenged...retested...and then possibly verified and disputed. Often even after all these steps...you still will not have a complete consensus on the study.

Mythbusters is a one shot deal in uncontrolled environments ran by two people without any formal education in any of the sciences.

Maybe the heavy metal plant was just the product of a better seed?

yeah i didnt take it as serious science but they did have controls in their experiment... they may not be "true" scientists but they do a decent job with their experiments and the way they execute them. also my memory may not be correct on the outcome but im pretty sure there was a large enough difference in the growth rate to deduce that the music was of some effect to the plant. now if you want to do an experiment to prove or disprove this that would be great! i would love to see if this is actually true... i would always play music for my plants then, just in a different room where i cant hear it

they states it was plausible. haha, they don't even try to make the case that they had confirmed results in their own test.
