My $20 150w HPS Econolight DIY reflector/remote ballast

They sold out and will not be getting anymore. I saw a post on here about it a few weeks ago, I can't remember which thread.

look for pyrex bake a round, or hurricane lamp glass! it might be cheaper to buy cool tubes i saw them for 50 bux on the net!

Also FYI on the light. If you plan to extend the 2 wires that go from the ballast to the socket do not use extension cord wire (copper). The socket is wired to the ballast with aluminum wire. Apparently copper/aluminum don't mix when spliced together. So go to an electrical place and get aluminum gauge wire to match. this will be safer and extend the life of the connection greatly.

Any tips are much appreciated in reguards to the cooltube material. Great thread btw. These lights are cheap and highly effective.

Yeah they no longer seel these, the reason they were selling them for $20 is so they could get rid of what they had, now that they are gone they arent stocking them anymore or anything like them. Now the HTG 400w hps for $120 is the best deal.

sorry that link just goes to the ,main page, the old 150 were under the vapor tight, they dont have one under there, i could only find one on there for 65 which is about what they cost at home depot.

Is it easy to disassemble and just use the ballasts and socket.

somewhat, but why ? it's perfect as is. I just took the glass lens off and drilled a hole in each corner to attach hanger hooks. The ballast is epoxied to the body but can be pried off.

Yeah i wonder how much separating the ballast from light actually cools it down. My 400w ballast doesnt produce much heat how much could a 150 create.
