My First Grow - Bagseed + Soil

Ok guys, im pretty new here, and have been doing some reading on growing some ladies on here. So, i finally decided to give it a go. I am also growing some morning glory, sunflowers, catnip, and lettuce to not attract to much attention.

Seeds - Random Bagseed from a friend

Lighting - I have 2, 2ft 700 lumen flourescent lights, and a window that gets around 3 hours of direct sun (for the vegetative state i will leave this window open during the day...) I plan on adding at least two more of these flouro setups for a total of 6 lights putting out ~4200 lumens. I also baught the ones that have an increased amount of light in the red UV range for flowering...

Medium - Soil. I will be starting them in some of those 1x1 just add water germination things from lowes, then plan on moving up to plastic cups for the first little bit.

Fertilizer - Since i will be doing a fairly limited and simple grow, for the first few weeks during vegetation i will be using some Osmocote nutes (19-6-12) then during flowering i will get some kind of blooming fertilizer (havent gone looking yet).

Method - I plan on doing a SOG... but i may also move some of my plants outdoors to one of our lots (we own some land that is isolated) so they can get big.

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. thanks!

Heres what the setup looks like...

haha, ya but the bag only had like 25 seeds. I plan on growing like 10 of these and then harvesting the seeds from all of those that way i can have many a trip.... haha, i also am planning on attempting a recipe to make wine out of the leaves... Dont know if it will work or not but its worth a try

hey i would try cfl's they would give you much more lumens for same price and they can be moved to flower better

Alright guys, i finally got the seeds and started soaking 4 of them in paper towels, and trying to germinate 3 in little soil pucks. Just trying it different ways to see what works best for my set-up.

I went out to Lowes and got 4, 100 (1600 lumens each) watt replacement CFLS. So now i have those and my 2, 20watt flouros (750 lumens) for a total of 7900 lumens. Im planning on getting at least 2 more flouros and two more CFLs during flowering. The average temperature in the rooms ~73-77. the average ph of the soil I will be using (from the other plants im growing is around 7 exactly.

Any comments or sugestions are great!

Heres the room, the three hanging CFLs (the other one is in a adjustable lamp that i can direct the light right at the plants, i moved it outta the way for the pic), and the flouro setup on top. Those big plants are my sunflowers and morning glory. the next pic is the three seeds in dirt pucks, and underneath them are the 4 seeds in the towel.

Anyone else besides me think my new grow area is much nicer looking than my card table set-up? lol Im quite pleased with myself! :blsmoke:

There you are! ;) You should check out the 42 watt CFLs, they put out about 2800 lumes each, and shine as bright as a 150 watter. i got mine at Home Depot for about 12 bucks each. i'm in Canada, though, so they may be cheaper in the states.

Ya, i was looking at those, but i got all 4 of those CFLs for like 7.99 so i fugured id get around 2x as much light for less money. :) Im broke right now, cause im a real grass person. In many ways- I love plants and nature, and my business is a lawn service, ive been going through a draught (sp?) during winter. no money until mowing starts haha

LOL do whatcha gotta do. i'd advise to keep whatever lights you do have as close to the plant as possible once it's sprouted. CFLs don't get that hot, i was able to hold one of mine in my hand for almost a full minute without it burning me, and they've been on 24/7 for the past 10 days.

Ya, ive had my CLFs on 24/7 for the past week or so on my morning glory and sunflowers. Once i get some sprouts i will be rearranging things to give my ladies prime placement and the most light, cause they will be more important (ill be moving the other outside soon anyway!!)

Thanks guys! I just cant wait for my first sprout!! At what point (lumens per sq/ft does adding more light not help. I heard somewhere on here the sun is like 10000 per sq.ft, so thats what i think i will go for. Or would more, say 12,000 be benefitial?

Anyone one the question above?

Well no new pics today cause not much happened. I had two of my paper towel seeds crack, but just barely (like 2mm) so their still there. The others have definately swelled, and hopefully will crack by morning. How wet is the towels you guys use? Im kinda worried about puting to much water on the towels and drowning them, but i have seen other peoples seeds crack and have like 6-7mm long tap roots after one day... Mine are damp, but you could only probably squeeze like 20 drops out of the folded towels (4 towels folded up). Is that too dry or just right?

once you have around 6000 lumen fer sq ft its not necessary to have more, but if you have the funds by all means add more lights. if your going to need a lot of light don't use just clf's i'd buy a hps or mh. hope this answers some of your q's. peace:peace:

Thanks.

Well today i had two more paper towel seeds put out tap roots, and the two seeds in dirt are still underground.

Alright guys, i have a confession to make... Im not really growing "marijuana." I just like the idea of pretending to so instead i am growing catnip, which is similar in its growth patterns and looks (somewhat). Please just continue to pretend for my own amusement that i am actually growing some bud (actually i am, because catnip produces buds!! :) Thanks!

But anyway, my first seed seems to have died after the initial root cracked (but i will keep it in the dirt), but the other two have pretty thick tap roots.

My main question is how many ml's of water should i add when they are in the beer cup stage?

Now soon (hopefully) they will break the surface! Then what should do? Just leave lights on them 24/7 or 21/7 or what? lol Any nutrients added? or humidity differences for sprouts than larger plants?

Thanks

Alright, after about 10 hours of showing the first leafs (still yellow) I have overcome my first worries... The leafs have turned green, and my second plant is now where the first plant was this morning. If i look closely i can see the first jagged edged leafs (just two on opposite sides) coming out. Wow, so much growth in one day! She (hopefully) is now about 1/2 inch tall. Thats my thumbnail in the picture.

Now ive had her in a germination box, one of those plastic things from Lowes, and was wondering if i should leave her in there for another day or two or take her out now? Thanks!
