My first grow...

i am in the research phase leading up to my first attempt at growing. i am sure to have many questions and hope to get some advice along the way. i encourage input, but hopefully no arguments etc.

here is what i have so far:

i have a 32”x32”x63” tent kit with inline fan and carbon filter
600 w LED
happy frog soil
fox farm trio
bag of perlite
3 gallon grow bags
timer for the light

The 14 seeds I purchased are Dakini Kush from Centennial.

My plan is to start 4 or 5 seeds in separate pots. I intend to use the space to grow no more than 1 or 2 plants once sexed. Will not be adding nuts during the first 4 weeks. After that, will be using a fraction of what fox farm recommends.

Just trying to soak up some info prior to getting started. Will probably start in a couple weeks.

A question I have now is about heating the tent. It will be located in my 3 season sun room. I live in the northeast US and it is still cold here, though will remain above freezing in porch.

I will likely need to add a source of heat at least in the early part of the grow. My idea is to keep a 5 gallon bucket of water in the tent and drop in the aquarium heater from my old fish tank. I can set the heater to keep the water around 84 degrees F. My thinking is this will also add some humidity, as the air here is still very dry.

Is this a good plan for heating the tent during the months of March/April while overnight temps here are low?

Thanks for any advice.

yeah i believe it’s what you call a blurple and yes the only pots i have are the 3 gallon. haven’t started the grow yet so hoping to avoid any glaring mistakes by asking questions first. here’s the tent i purchased...

Blurples are not the most efficient leds .... I never really tried doing them so I won’t know what advice to give you , and sometimes 600w is not the true wattage. Never heard of topo grow either but good luck ... and i would start with small pots and progress to 3 gals maybe party cups at first then one gal then 3 gallons if you want to feed it properly.

hey thanks for the input. we all have to start somewhere, right? i will see how this light does...perhaps next grow i will upgrade.

2 questions. what i read, the happy frog soil has all the nutrients i will need for the first few weeks so i wasn’t planning on doing anything but light watering initially. that said, is it necessary to start in small containers?

also, do you have any advice in regards to the heat question in my initial post? it’s a closed room but not insulated. still cold where i live so i thought a bucket of water in the tent with aquarium heater dropped in ought to keep the tent warm. also thinking of insulating the outside of the tent at least through April.

thanks again for your input.

I go right into ocean forest ,wont feed until like 3 weeks in you’ll be okay don’t worry so much on nutrients yet .... in fact don’t even worry about nutes. Just know that every time you water it will feed on those sweet nutrients in your meduim. So to answer your other question you will want the temps to be between 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. But I would just keep it close and wait till you know how hot those lights get. I myself whip out a heater in the winter months even tho I’m in SoCal it gets cold at night . This will help lower humidity too. Make sure your humidity is between 30 to 70 . Other than that i wouldn’t worry to much. Start a journal post pics people will guide you.

I plan to set the tent up this week and run it just to see the temps inside overnight, how loud the fan is etc. I went out today and got a few smaller pots to start the seeds in. Will keep posting updates and questions as I get things going. Thanks
