My new HiLUX Ushio 600w Super HPS Lamp blew up. i also was running a new 600w lumatek ballast. So the bulb lasted about just 4 hours of using it.Has anyone had this happen to them? i hope its not a ballast Problem

Since it's a new ballast, contact the retailer or manufacturer that you purchased it from and ask them how to proceed. Or get another $100 bulb and take your chances that the first bulb was defective or that the ballast is bad and hope that the manufacturer will compensate you for two broken bulbs.

if you have a digital ballast you need to get a bulb that is made for digital ballast, not sure what you have? but I read an article about this problem, aparently the digital ballast was invented before there were bulbs that will work in them and this has led to problems with the bulbs either not lasting as long as they should or blowing up,digital ballast run at a higher hertz than the older magnetic ones and the bulbs are not desighned to run at such high hertz wich causes them to fail

Ushios are. I just got a 600w ballast with the same set of ushio bulbs and haven't had an issue yet.

My experience is the same as corners. I use an Ushio with a Lumatek and it is my favourite bulb. I also use a digital bulb with a Lumatek and another Lumatek with a GE hps bulb. I find no difference in performance overall but I think the Ushio has a better spectrum.
Could you have left a fingerprint on the bulb? It's never happened to me but I have heard and read that a spot of oil from your hands can blow a bulb after it gets hot.
I also agree with smokinrav. Contact both manufacturers and the retailer and tell them what happened. Lumatek is pretty good at customer support....not sure about Ushio.

Good info. I did'nt buy my bulbs from my local hydro shop, but if you do they mark the box and you can exchange it if it blows at all for 1 year.I think they do the same for most of the equipment
