this is weird i went to my friends down the street and tested his tap water with my meter and his showed over 900 too then we tested it with his meter and it showed 500 so i thought my meter was way off. we then tested his r/o water and it showed about 20 ppms on both meters ......wtf

Wow there is a lot of "something" in your water. I would advise you get it tested because if a visual is better:
Rainwater (after 1 hour of rain to not count chemtrail gunk) 0ppm - <50ppm (for dense urban areas)
"country" tap - >100ppm generally, if fluoridated and water system over 50 years old
"City" water - 120ppm - 200ppm

this is my area. I note that the water in my previous location was around 190-250ppm with heavily treated water. Current location was 60ppm until about April, when it read 120ppm and jumped from 7.0 to 8.2pH. Since, the water has been at 120ppm and 7.8pH and I know one factor for change in water chemistry would be they are working on water lines in the city, but thats about it. I dont drink the faucet water as it tastes nasty anyway. My observations.
