My very first grow room

[h=1]My very first grow room.[/h]Well, it's decided, I'm going ahead with my very first indoor grow room, not a closet but the center of a room, the space I will use is 3 feet by 5 feet.
I'll be using fluorescent lights, beginning with Daylight tubes for the vegetative period and then going with warmer light tubes for plants and get them in flower mode.
I'll be hanging the two double tubes by a couple of 2"x 4" 's over the plants and get some reflective material on all sides for maximum light output.
Using MiracleGrow soil mix and will see how that works out. So far, I have everything but the 2"x 4"'s and the reflective material which will come sometime this week.
In the meantime, I bought some feminized OG Kush seeds and will start the sprouting process in a day or so, this will be my small blog about them.
I'm not overly knowledgeable in growing and will probably not do things perfectly but I will share my process and eventually add images.
If anyone has any cool suggestions or just wishes to follow this thread, feel welcome to suscribe to it.

That's the best way to learn, jump in and give it ago. If you can afford to do it, i would recommend getting an HPS light and ballast (you can get them quite cheap).

I'll look up what an HPS light is and see about that if possible. Right now I have 2 fluorescent light fixtures which means 4 48" Daylight 40 watts tubes at 3050 lumens each and temp of 6500k and once the young plants are nearly through the vegetative, I will change the tubes for warmer temp ones to encourage flowering. I might also add a couple of spot lights for added lumens as well as the reflective material.

You can encourage the flower cycle with any bulb just by cutting the light cycle to 12/12.
But you get better results from using a more intense bulb. It's good to get started and you can improve your equipment as you go along.

Go to eastwesthydro.com or Amazon there pretty good prices. Hps will increase your yield and way better growth.

You could make a very cheap 'wooden box' and staple Mylar on the inside. (I would get the thicker Mylar so that you can enter in and out with out damaging the room/tent) I did my dimensions 4x4x6.5, could have made it a bit shorter or 3x4... but with the Mylar on the inside and sucks in when my intake/outtake system runs... so it is probably more like 3x4x6.. but I could get 4 plants going with no problem.... though I there is enough room to add lighting etc.. I was going to go all CFL's but had just enough to add a 150 watt HPS. Getting a higher watt HPS was not only more expensive, but also spending more money on getting the added heat out. I would rather add a second 150 if I choose to go to 4 plants... since I went cheap on wood etc.. I spent a bit on an item I like very much... an adjustable garment rack lol... I would loose MG if it is the MC with 6 month food.. my girls have had over nitrogen their whole time... I am hoping that topping, FIMming, and super cropping will burn up some of the extra nitrogen before I get to far into flower...starting day 8 tomorrow. Oh, one big lesson I learned the last few days is DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE to mend cannabis stems!!!, lol... there are actually sites that say to use it.. but electrical tape or even medical tape would be better.. I am actually using a method I learned here (have not seen it before, makes a lot of sense and I have been researching for over 3 or 4 months now) that works the best. A soda straw. I like to use this method so that I can have vertical stems but with a nice super crop knuckle. Now if you want to retain the bend, then I would use electrical tape, works great! sorry.. but maybe you can come back to this when topping/FIMming/super cropping etc.. Oh and there is LSTing as well (low stress training). I hope you enjoy your first grow... I started this one (my first grow) with bag seed. Would love to perfect a low area/high yield before purchasing the femmi seeds. But the only two seeds that took/lived are both female! So I was happy about that and it is neat to see the pistils for the first time.
good luck, I will definitely subscribe since it is very similar to my set up (center of a room lol)
happy growing!

Went out and got some organic soil mix that is also PH neutral along with decent sized pots ( 10 inches ). Seeds are still germinating, and will place them in starter pots as soon as it's possible. I will keep to the fluorescent lighting because I have them already and could not easily afford getting HPS for now, I'll just haver to frequently adjust distance between lights and plants. I'll add a couple of side spot light eventually to ensure more light and also get the reflective material.

Did I mention the strain; it's Headband ( an OG Kusk hybrid ), I'll be hopefully growing three of them if all seeds germinate well ( they are feminized seeds ) and I will try with this one seed I had left from my outdoor grow which is of unknown origin though certainly of the Kusk family from what I can tell. 4 possible plants this time around. * Crossing fingers *.

Hard to tell how 'airy' your soil is.. I started mine in Netty pots and just put that into the 3.1 gallon once the roots started to poke out of the sides of the Netty pot. Water, water, water... they love it, as long as there is enough air in the soil (if it drains well, then it is pretty a good supply of o2. I set my 2 Netty pots on a saucer and just watered them both and filled the bottom up about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Once the water was gone I usually just filled the saucer with water, given that the soil was still somewhat moist. They took off pretty fast. With the Netty pots, and I have not heard anything wrong with using them yet, it is easy to move to bigger container. You just can not re use the Netty pots. Let me find the link, but there is a GREAT way to 'Bonzi' your plants... the author of the thread calls it 'main lining'. I will find the link...

It's a joke. Get over it. If gay people can take a dick, they can take a joke. People need to stop being so touchy.
Last time I checked, this was a MJ thread not a sexual orientation/joke thread... just sayin.

@ SassyFemme | Cool setup you got. What kinda temps are you getting in there? Any plans for venting/exhaust? Best wishes on your grow! :D

Hi and thank you for that BakedPOTATO, I actually enjoy humor, if it's not aimed at putting others down or diminishing them. I'm going to make the set up more square-ish as it's presently looking more like a tent of sorts. No, got no venting/exhaust though it's in a room that is easily twice it's size. Smell won't be a major problem as it's our home. I will have a fan going soon as I redo the structure.

Yes, you think in a cannabis growing forum that the jokes would be, well you know 'cannabis oriented' oh well. We can tell a person by how they joke though.. just saying

Hi LeafGnosis, :)

Hearing you, it's very personal for me as a woman who happens to prefer other women to read stupidities of the nature that was posted and as bad reading the reply. I was surprised and yet maybe I shouldn't be since homophobia and misogyny can be found everywhere, even among cannabis aficionados. Yes, a lot can be understood about how a person jokes and communicates. Hoping for more cannabis related comments and input.

Ok, so here are a couple of images of the new and improved grow space, hehheh, I use two Ikea book shelves with two lengths of ( 2"x4"'s ) with the light fixtures hanging down from them and that I will be able to raise as necessary. :weed:
