Natural Guard Diatomaceous Earth question

Yo whatup riu!!! Quick question... Has anyone used this specific brand of diatomaceous earth before? Im new to organics and have never used DE before. This product says its 85% silicon dioxide from DE, 10% "other element oxides", and 5% inert ingredients. I dnt know what "other oxides" are in it and my concern is that it may have something that could harm my microbes, which i have worked hard to breed. I plan to top dress w it to help w a minor fungus gnat infestation. Anyone ever used this specific brand? And how much should i use and how often? Thanks!!image.jpg

As long as its omri i think youll be good.
Heres how i apply de.
As a preventative pest control measure. I mix 4tbsp de. 4 tbsp crab meal. 4 tbsp neem seed meal with 2 qrts coco coir. 2 qrts perlite. And 1 gallon ewc. Mix very well and too dress with this mixture. Works wonders. Just redid my room and after 12 months my fly sticky traps a were empty! Zero fungus gnats. But not using any store bought soil helps as well. And i also apply preditory nematoads when building my soil.

man they loved the crab shell that was in my mix... i think that's why they moved to the veg room!

i just put down some neem meal, then pumice about 1/2" thick, sprinkled the DE on that, and covered it with straw. took care of them fools :) i'll try out your mix too GMT.

they seemed to.... it def didnt deter them lol. the neem meal worked better. but that was just sprinkled on top... not very effective on it's own i bet

Hmm. Thats weird. I would think crab meal would be the best pest deterrent on its own. But maybe the meals have to break down before chiton starts to make ita way into soil.

yeah it didnt work right away and the crab shell is big and chunky.... not the fine stuff like you get with the DTE brand. that's probably why!!! good call.

I use the chunky stuff too. Although i mix up a huge batch of my top dress and since its 50% ewc maybe it breaks down before it is dressed

if I understand it correctly the crab meal on its own doesn't do much, the chitin, chitanese, etc.
I use it mixed with insect meal, shrimp meal, and neem meal.
But really I use it for the ph, slow release of nutrients, and calcium content.
the pests I seem to have under control.
Neem works well, but smells shitty.
which is probably why pests don't like it.

Man the neam meal i have smells amazing to me! Like huney mustard pretzels. Lol

I wouldnt use DE indoor, your fans are going to blow it all over your buds then you are going to inhale it, DE is super toxic for your lungs last thing you want to use around something you are going to smoke. Do a little more research before you use it. One thing though is I dont believe its bad for microbes and even worms seem to like it ... just be careful...

So does this help with Beneficial insects or does it prevent All insects? Getting ready to spray some Azamax for a week... Should I Also get some DE and do your little top dressing mix? I like your recipe for that thanks for sharing!
