need a wee bit of info

I know my problem is that I put my seedlings into too big of a pot to start with, newbie mistake (3.5 gallon pots), but my little guys just turned a week old and they are still just seedlings starting out. My questions are, how long until they start growing? and second, am I wasting light on them? right now they are getting 75-100w's each. The ones next to the babies are 5 days older than them (bag seeds), all the little ones are nirvana's femenized PPP.numero1.jpgnumero2.jpg

Thanks in advance =)

Meh your pot size is fine, i use to start seeds in 5 gallon paint buckets and never had a problem, just have to remember each strain is different, some grow faster then others some grow different parts of the plant before others.

Why people use small containers is mainly for watering reasons. A small plant in a big pot can cause...soggy feet and stunt growth if watering is excessive (Easily done in a big pot). I think they look good, patience is the key, as they grow more green they will speed up growth. JAS

They will grow slow for the first week or two because, like said before, they are establishing a good tap root to hang on to the dirt and establish the area where the rest of your root system will come from.

You can start and any pot size you want. Also like someone said above, people will start in smaller pots to avoid root bound problems in their next or final pot, it's easier to move around, you can fit them in smaller areas that don't need as much light, ect. Everyone does their own thing for their reasons.

You can't really waste light on a plant in the sense your saying as it's just not taking it in. I mean seedlings don't need much light, or as much light as a larger plant, but as long as you can control the heat I always think the more light the better off you are. I think if you got 100w cfls through seedlings and veg for each plant, keep them nice and close, then try to up your lights by 1.5 or double for flower, you'll get a decent harvest with buds that are still decently dense.

alright i'll just take a patience pill and sit back then =), this is actually a little experiment of mine, I want to see if it's just the same/ better/ worse/ more economical to veg under cfl's vs mh. I have some under a 1000w mh dimmed to 50% and then some under cfl's. thanks all for the responses/

I personally veg under T5s just because I don't have enough space for another HID light setup. It'll be more economical going with CFLs no doubt, but if I had a 1000w MH and had the room for it, it would be used for vegging for me no doubt.
