Need advice before i start a new grow

Ok so my first grow was a disaster and before i start my second one i need some advice. Below i will list the details of my grow space. If i need to change anything please let me know.


Grow space.

Dimensions:
38cm wide
49cm deep
112cm height

Additions:
Emergency blanket used on sides and bottom for reflection.
Extractor fan duct just above light to remove heat.
Small fan near the ground for air flow over plants.

Lights:
150 watt HPS (always kept at least 25cm away from top of the plants)
Next grow thinking of starting with 2 42 watt CFLs for the start and only adding the HPS later on when plants are bigger.

I also need advice on what nutrients to buy that are available here in South Africa ( if anyone knows any).

You are leaving out the most important detail. Give them the details of the soil you used last time and what your plans are for soil this time. You might want to ask the soil question about creating a good soil with the items you have access to in the organics section. I know they will be happy to help you create a good soil with the challenge of not having the same access in South Africa. Good Luck!

did you get a harvest off your first grow? why do you consider it a disaster if you did? less is more - maybe you need to do a run with basic soil (as suggested above) and water and see what the plants need.

Personally i wouldnt use a hps in that size of a box, the heat they pump out is madness and im pretty sure your plant will have serious heat stress even with extractor fans... but then again i may be wrong. As for your soil you will always be better off buying a soil designed for weed such as foxfarms,biobizz ect. If you was in a cooler climate i would be able to tell you how to use soil from nature but i have no clue about south africa, again as it is your first grow i would suggest using a premade organic set of nutes

The soil i am planning on using i will have to mix myself. I am planning on doing the base soil mix as 1 third compost, 1 third perlite and one third peat moss. Ill probably add some of the natural soil here into the mix as well as some worm castings. That is about all i can get my hands on here at the moment.
