  • ok, so after being fed up with 2 flaky electricians after a month. I decided to wire up my room by myself.(i wouldve preffered to use an electrician, however they never showed. And i paid one upfront!) So the one i paid that bailed on me gave me a list of stuff to get. My wire is Romex 10-3, I wired it up to the box correctly. It has 4 wires a bare wire (ground), Red, Black and White. I hooked them up in the box as they needed. Now the issue. Im using a sentinel HPH-8 box in the room. however on the instructions, there is no place for the white wire. It just sayd to connect the red black and ground (bare) what do i do. My lights are down and i need to resolve this stat! any help is appreciated. I have a feeling i didnt need the romex 10-3 with the white. I think i just needed the 3wire. Please help if you can!

here are the installation instructions for the sentinel:

P.S. if you dont know what your talking about dont respond. Ive had enough bad advice on this matter so far, dont need anymore. However if you can help please do thank you.

What you have is known as 10/3 with ground. You can use it.
I have the same relay, I'm making you some pictures of the install at the relay and at the panel.
Give me a few minutes....:joint:

You just need to decide what to use for your ground, I chose the insulated wire instead of the bare one.
There are only 3 wires needed, RED,BLACK,GREEN/BARE. You need a twin pole breaker like you see in pics. I use a 30amp, but if you're planning on really using the relay for more than 4 lights you should use a 50amp. ****DO NOT EXCEED 50 AMPS****
The red goes to one side of the twin pole breaker, the black goes to the other. The green/bare wire will ALWAYS be connected to the panel ground bus bar.
The relay is pretty much the same, red to one, black to the other, ground to the stud inside the box.
Hope this does the trick for you. 220 volt relay 002.jpg220 volt relay 003.jpg220 volt relay 009.jpg220 volt relay 010.jpg

awesome, thank you. that does help. Im using a 30amp. So in this case i can use the ground (bare) and just disregard the neutral? just keep it disconnected and out of the way on both sides? thats what ill do. As for the breaker, im using a 30amp, but its one like the 60 in your pic, its twice as big as your 30. It takes up 2 spaces. is that sufficent?

Yes, you can wire it just like that.Yes, your 30amp is going to be fine (with 4 or less lights) it should take up 2 spaces.
Just remember, it takes a heavy duty timer to trigger it. I think the one I'm using is rated for 15amps @ 120volts.
It's not so tough, you'll agree when you are finished.
***PLEASE DO ALL OF THE WORK AT THE PANEL WITH THE MAIN BREAKER IN THE OFF POSITION EVEN IF IT MEANS USING A LANTERN TO SEE. THIS CAN KILL YOU.***
Enjoy your new relay!!
