I think I'm drying properly, im leaving the leaves on and I'm drying at 60% humidity and 72 degrees which seems a little too slow in my opinion. I am 100% sure your right....who hears of someone harvesting at 8 weeks. I definitely think I took them early. So lets say I waited, do you think I would of noticed a night and day difference....sorry I'm still a little new at this
Too warm for drying. If you would have waited yes it would have been a vast improvement. After all the hairs turn brown and recede then wait 2 weeks and harvest. I have a decent idea of what I'm talking about.

You’re chopping way too early. I mean way way too early. But your plants looked good. Next time when you flip just tell yourself it’s going to be 11 weeks before you are hanging a plant. You’ll know if it’s actually ready before then but anything less than 9 full weeks you’re generally cheating yourself.

You are a godsend...for a year and a half I have been trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and you just verified it thank you bro

Can’t go by the fade, especially if this guy isn’t tapering back in later part of flower.
The highest ppm reading I had was 700, I was giving them nothing but ro water for a week at week 7 and saw no fade whatsoever...I would think that giving such a light dose of nutrients the whole time of flowering I would of seen some kind of fade after a week of flushing

That’s decent ppm. Idk how people can run 2+ EC, I see burn at 1.4.

I’ve only had one harvest but I noticed a HUGE difference in how much they smelled around ten weeks, and then the smell itself changed when they were ripe around week 12.

I had one plant that had something wrong so I had to pull it at 7 weeks and it’s super potent but tastes like shit and burns your throat.

im surprised no one brought up your comment about buds getting spongy when you jar them. This is a very clear sign that you are jarring too soon and will absolutely screw up your taste and smell. If your buds do that when jarring, immediately pull them back out to dry more. 8 weeks may be early, but not necessarily crazy early. Shouldnt taste horrible at 8 weeks. Your pics at first glance look covered in white hairs, but i think thats just the lighting and reflection of trichs. Or was there actually a lot of white pistils?
Could also definitely be genetics. when i started growing again about 8 months ago, my first few strains were ok, but i just wasnt getting good phenos and the smell/taste was as you describe. You would think when ordering seeds for killer strains, you should get killer bud with some slight pheno variation, but i found this to be far from the case. You can end up with a lot of bunk phenos and only a good one here and there. This last run that im about to harvest, my luck finally turned around and i got 2 amazing phenos out of 4 plants that are loaded with trichs and smell/taste like candy. The stuff i tasted was clipped at 6 weeks and was obviously not done but still amazing taste and smell.
Im pretty sure you are jarring too soon, but genetics could also be involved

I had alot of red pistols and a bunch of cloudy trichomes. I jar in a really big jar and that's when the bud becomes spongy but it feels dry before I put in jars

Yep, thats what i thought, so you probably really werent that early. The pics are deceiving. Looks like a lot of white, but its just the trichs.
What you explain is common, buds feel nice and firm/dry, then as soon as you jar them they go spongy. This means your buds are only dry on the outside and the moisture within the bud is equalizing to the outside once they are contained in the jar. You are definitely jarring too soon and im convinced this is your main issue. Not sure if you know this or not, but all stems should easily snap rather than bend when the bud is dry. Even then it may not be ready. Next clue is buds getting spongy when jarring.

Just to be clear, im not saying i know for sure your buds were ready for harvest, they may have wanted more time, but what you describe with buds going spongy when putting in jar will definitely cause smell and taste issues.

How long did you let it dry. Do you have better pics because they looked like they had little to no red hair.

when i first looked at his pics i thought i saw a feild of white pistils, but when looking closer i cant even see pistils at all white or red. im guessing pic was taken with flash and all you can see is sparkling trichs. In a few areas i can see some bud detail and the calyxes look pretty swollen to me, but definitely need to see better pics, preferably without flash.

They hung for 14 days with all the leaves attached with temps around 72 degrees. It's been 2 weeks since I've jarred the bud and beleive it or not it's still not dry, taste like shit and has black ash....clear sign it isnt dry

What was the humidity? Temp is too high and how did you keep the humidity at bay?

You also want air circulation in your dry room/tent. Stale air = stale bud

Fan on low pointed at a wall not your buds. Fresh air exchange daily by opening door and allowing air to circulate in and out of room
