Most people top, not for higher yield, but because it helps to decrease and slow down vertical growth, when indoor growers have very limited space...but it does increase yield in most of these cases...But remember strain is the most influencing factor in the way a plant grows and how they respond to certain "training"...some strains may yield better when topped or fimmed, and some strains will yield better if left alone...You could try a side by side experiment, if you have any doubts and want to find out the truth for yourself!

At the risk of being flamed for obvious inexperience, I have some questions.
First time grow ( well in many, many years ! ) I live in Phoenix Arizona - long hot summer, but long growing season, as well. I have a single outdoor plant - grown from a random seed in a bag ( I will purchase better seeds next year - this is a test for me )
Anyway, see attached pic. I have not used any nutes - just water and sunshine.
Plant is about 4-5 weeks old. Any advise ? When should I apply nutes ? I have no idea when the light changes will get me to a point of figuring out what sex this plant is. Again this is just a test, but looking forward to more outdoor grows in the future.

Welcome to RIU curtis, and thanks for stopping by my thread...now let's get down to business..

I usually start giving nutes at the 2 week from seed mark, but start off at 1/4 the recommended strength and increase in 1/4 intervals every week, for a period of 4 weeks...
If the change in light cycle does not cause her to show sex, she will show you sex in about2-3 weeks...this is when she will be fully mature and ready to flower...

hey SLB hope all is well

looks like i need some advice,
i am not really noticing much growth on my plants to be honest long story short i think i am probably underwatering this time round, my soil mix drains so well that the top surface of my pots are bone dry at least 3 inches down within 6 hours of watering....yesterday morning i gave 50ml of water....this morning doubled the water instake to 100 ml and 10 hours later (a few minutes ago) gave each plant another 50ml to try keep things a little moist.... for the full story with pics check below, posted a thread on the sick plant section...you can comment on this thread if you do

thanks again SLB, got an extra pot of the same soil mix to compare the weight of the plant pots, i have updated my post with some pics...the second set of leaves seem to be starting out now at day 4 since popping through the soil, i am still convinced i got serious watering issues and nothing else as i am used to quicker growth than this from past experiences...getting one of those digital food scales to measure the plant pots and the measurement pot to be 100% sure....

well got a digital kitchen scale to measure the pots, great experiment i must say... for the full details check link below

the plant pots that have been watered are an average of about 74 grams heavier than the test/measurement pot telling me there is deffinitely water moisture still in there.


in the end i reckon i can lay off the water for a day or two...glad i never watered this morning

What's up Bob? After I water my plants they droop for about 30-45 minutes, then they perk back up and point up at the light. I am watering 8 Afghan Kush plants (indica) until I get some water running out the bottom of the pot then stopping. Just wondering what is causing the droopiness and if there is something I can do to remedy this. I have done some searching and seem to find multiple answers regarding this (imagine that) Thanks in advance.

Thanks for stopping by roc!

it could be that you are slightly over-watering, try filling the pot with water about 1/2 above the soil line, then give it approx.30-45 seconds to drain, if there is no run-off, repeat the process...

I just transplanted to FFOF and am currently using Botanicare Liquid Karma, and CalMag. I am going to wait a week or so before I start the Botanicare Pure Gro back up. Do this lineup of nutes have all of the nutrients that I need? Just started the CalMag and Karma a week ago and my plants still have brown splotches all over them. Does it take time for the nutes to get distributed or is there something more sinister at play here.

Can I get clones from clones, and make clones? Is that posible?

And If my plant is flowering and pistils go brown, but outside is no direct sun light, cuz of rain clouds, is plant will produce good buds?

And my plant what growes in greenhouse, isn't showed he's sex, and summer will soon end, does plant will make it, and produce some buds?

Whats up SLB? Ive been followin this thread all day today on my phone while i was at work. It came to me in good time as i am having some probs with my lil girls. I posted pics and the situation over in the hospital threads but not sure of the info someone gave me. Id feel much more comfortable changing something if it came from an experienced person as your self. Ill see if i can attach the link to the thread. Hey bro, I got two outdoor northern lights from nirvana seeds. Its my first time doing outdoor and I was just wondering when do they normally start to flower? Do some even take till October to start??

Also I noticed I've been able to give them loads more of nitrogen without any nute burn, they're taking it in like crazy. Is this a sign of the end vegging?

I too would love to know the answer to this question.

I was wondering also. If you transplant, is it a good or bad idea to bury the first set of leaves at the bottom of the stock nearest the soil. Oh, and why, or why not?

Yes, you can take clones from clones that are mature...

It should produce bud if it gets a few hours of direct sunlight per day...the rain clouds haven't cleared yet?

Plants start budding when the days grow shorter during the Autumn/Fall months...it probably isn't mature enough to show sex, while in veg yet...but it will eventually show sex if the light cycle is remotely close to 12/12...
