Need Help Designing Grow Closet

Unfortunately, the 220 was in the laundry closet. I decided to use the walk in closet in the back of my bedroom, which lacks the 220 line. I haven't even been in this new room yet, I won't get to see it until the beginning of September. I am not sure if it will have an electrical outlet inside or if I will have to get a converter for the light socket. I don't know if a light socket could handle all that load, so I may have to run a cord into there from the bedroom. I would like to avoid this if at all possible, but you work with what you got. If anybody knows if it is possible to beef up the load carrying capacity of a light fixture (replace the cheap 2 light dome) without having to replace all of the wiring, please let me know.

thank you,

over and out.

deff not. you will need a grounded extension cord with a grounded multi socket power strip that has a transistor/transformer<? plug, so your light will be protected if there is a surge or what not. if stealth is an issue then you might not want a thick orange power cord running into your closet. get cable tacks for coax cable tv, tack the cord along the base board and then repaint the same color so it blends in.

ventilation will also be a big concerne. especially if stealth is an issue and you cant cut holes in the wall. i personally dont care, i will cut holes all day and just fix it wil a piece of dry wall cut to fit and spackle and paint.

the best advise i can give is: you dont cut corners to make a square. :blsmoke:

Here's a thought about your exhaust ventilation. A 6" ducted exhaust will be great, and a passive intake will be fine, as long as there is enough intake area to fulfill the exhaust, IOW room for the air to flow. The crack under the door won't do it.

A general rule for passive intake is supply twice the area of the exhaust. So for a 6" round exhaust duct, you would need at least two 6" round holes for the intake.

I can cut some holes in the walls/ceiling, I am good with my hands so I am not to worried about fixing up some drywall. I'm going to have to do some thinking about the holes for the intake though. I was originally just going to hide the closet door behind an armoire. the way the bed room is set up you wouldn't really be able to tell there was a closet missing unless you had seen the blueprints. with the addition of holes in the wall I may need something bigger than an armoire to hide what I have going on.... maybe a large book case. I am just going to set it on those carpet glider things so I can move it back and forth fairly easily. If there is an outlet near the door the larger object may work out in my favor though...

On another note. I am reconsidering soil under Metal Halide. this is going to be a cash crop so I am looking to broaden my profit margins. I would like to have good weed, But I am not looking to win any high times awards (at least not for the stuff I am doing in bulk) input is always appreciated, if you know of any good ways to keep costs low while yielding a good product let me know. Not looking to cut corners, just more like building a BMW than a Bentley.

thanks for the input.

good night folks. I am verrrry tired

Thanks for the link Jazer, I really like that idea.

I am thinking 4, 400w digital ballast's on the right wall of the room configured to be 2 high and 2 wide. that takes care of the four grow sights. I would like to use more of the room for growing but I need to keep everything to do with the weed in that room until it is bagged and ready to go, that means the other side of the room is going to be dedicated to Mothers/Clones/Drying/Water Reservoirs/(anything I am missing?). I am still flip-flopping on the grow medium, Thinking of building my own aero setup.

as for the passive intake I think I may have come up with a solution that doesn't involve cutting any holes in the wall. Ill head down to home depot and find the cheapest door they sell there, cut some holes in that and mount it in place, I can just bring that with me when I move out.

God this is getting expensive. I know that it will pay for itself fairly quickly but it is still a little bit daunting to spend this much money on one room when I wouldn't normally spend it on my entire apartment.

your really gonna need some sort of a/c in that room. heat is gonna be a killer! also, if i were you i'd grow organic. its the best way to go. with aero and hydro mistakes are made easily and hard to fix.

I got some new info on the place today, my electric cost is about $0.06 per KWh so I would like to figure out what this room is going to cost to keep running, on top of my normal electricity usage. I'm a high efficiency light bulb, wear a sweater in the winter/walk around the house naked in the summer kind of guy, so I am not worried about too crazy of an electric bill unless it really is extremely expensive to run power for a room this size.

Heading out the door, just thought I would keep you all abreast of the situation.

Special shout outs to:
