i did see an interesting article on the cnn webpage about a dude living on $5k a year or so
which is in your economic neighborhood
he made some interesting choices, lives in the summer in a hobbit hole on some rented land
it can be done, if you're willing to change your lifestyle dramatically

If money wasn't an issue, I'd buy a shit ton of land in Alaska.
Build a cabin, and live off of the land.
Sounds like heaven doesn't it?
