Subcool does use PH down in his water, he says he doesn't really worry about testing the PH all the time.
he actually uses non organic ph down and the reason he does for this is this, the water companies treat the water with the same sort of stuff that's in PH down so it doesn't really make a difference, which is true, so I started PH down in my water, never have any defs now. Anther so called organic way is using citric acid instead of lemon juice but ive read this can cause probs too.

after I heard subs reasoning for ph down, I thought he's right, the water companies put a lot more shit into the water to clean it than PH down. I reckon you'll plants would prefer properly PH'd water over PH 8 water anyday, however it got to the PH.

i will add though that i filter all my water and let it sit with airstones for atleast 48 hours.

I have been using lemon juice for almost two years since day one in my organic soil grows and now i use it in my dwc 5 gal buckets. No r/o water, just cuz of the money i do want the filter tho. My water comes out at 7.8 and i use as many tablespoons as i need to get it down to around 6.2 soil and 5.7 hydro.

I have not noticed any problems at all and using 60 drops isnt that bad. Think if each drop is 1ml the that is 4 tablespoons to a couple gallons. Like i said never had any problems in soil or hydro just saved money. Its $1.75 and lasts a while. Think about this 2 on the wrapper of Grodan rockwool cubes they tell u to use lemons or lemon juice to bring ph to 5.5 for starting seeds or clones, it cant be bad for your plants.

If i havent settled your nerves on this issue, Earth Juice is the first organic nute line i ever tried, made some great tasting ak. Any way they have organic ph up and down go waste your money on some. Sorry if i sound like a dick but i have a bottle of their ph up and its still full, wasted about $18.
actually if i remember right earth juice nutes actually lower the ph in your water naturally and if u aerate for a day or two before watering your ph will buffer itself right where it needs to be.

Good luck bro,
Frosty

If im not mistaken hydrolyzed lime and dolomite lime are used for ph buffer in organic. I recall you would use a little bit of both in your soil because the hydrolyzed is more readily available and the dolomite breaks down over time.

I use vinegar (specifically apple cider vinegar) to lower my ph on non-feeding days. My ph typically runs about 7.5, and takes about 1 tbsp/gallon of vinegar to get the ph down to where I want it. I have also used Vitamin B1 to lower the ph (roughly 1 tbsp/gallon again). Pretty sure that's not organic though.

On feeding days, the nutes take care of the ph adjustment. If I'm feeding heavily, I occasionally need to adjust the ph back up (for which I use baking soda, when necessary).

I haven't experienced any adverse reactions from the plants to either vinegar or baking soda (nor has my extremely 'old school' mentor) - but would love to hear from anyone else who has tried these as ph adjustments, and encountered problems.

EarthJuice also has both phUp and phDown products, both of which are organic, I believe.

Hey dude I used to have to lower the PH of my water when I was keeping a black water amazonian biotope tank. With this aquarium the water remained stable at 5.9-6.1. My water comes out of the tap at 7.2. I lowered it by using a 55 g drum with a nylon sock filled with peat (and later on indian almond leafs). The peat or IAL accomplish a few different things. They lower the PH of your water to a stable level and wont drop it any further. The IAL in particular have amazing, and I mean AMAZING anti fungal properties. Expert Betta Fish breeders use them to increase their survival rate and to produce a higher quality specimen. The peat or IAL will also add extremely beneficial things such as Humic acid and tannins. Tannins are the chemical responsible for the tea/coffee colour of water (hence black water aquarium). Another method Ive use to lower PH (for growing cultivated blueberries) is to use coffee grounds in both the soil and water. I couldnt believe how much they loved the coffee treatment. IMO though the 55g drum with the nylon sock is the easiest because all you have to is keep it topped off and possibly monitor the PH untill you have a feel for it. It sounds much more complicated than it actually is.

The cheapest decent ph tester i found and im broke as fuck so ive researched alot all those $20 ones is the Hanna checker i think its called htg supply has it. The other cheapo ones had mixed reviews some said they worked other half said they were way off so dont risk it. The hanna tester was 45 and they have a tds one too for the same price. If you buy it get the calibration solution with it you need it.4.01 and 7.01 Very easy to calibrate just 2 tiny screws at the top for each of those numbers.

Fyi i have heard good things about coffee grounds 2. Never used them but i heard used coffee grounds contain 1or2% nitrogen and egg shells contain calcium

Yeah, think i decided to save my money and try to get one i know will work right. Who knows how long that will be.lol Im in organic so hopefully it wont hurt too bad to wait.

Thinkin bout adding coffee grnds to my tea. Only thing might be that i put a DASH of salt in my grounds before i brew. Dont think its enough to hurt anything, but who knows. If it can hurt, it will prob hurt mine. Lol
thx for reply

BTW! I like the time u posted! 4:20 lol

Lol funny coincidence
wanted to update

My hanna ph tester i told u about for 40 just started giving me inaccurate readings Im trying to clean it and Recalibrate it but i dont know if it will work right. I heard its ultra sensitive and i might have banged it on my buckets too much. It also takes forever to give u a stable Reading.

I know probably my fault i dont care The point Im making is i wish i would have bought a higher quality tester and paid 100 for it. This is not an area to go cheap ph is just too important.

On the other hand my tds from hanna still works, both about 2 months old but i use it a lot less once a week when i add nutes to my buckets. Hopefully they have a warranty.

i started buying powders and making my own concentrates.. my water is like 8.8. i just use my acids (humic, folic and amino) rather then use them once a week i half them and use it every watering. not only does this help to lower my PH (to like 6.5) but i also prefer giving a little every watering so they have a constant steady supply rather then a big spike one time.. i buy a few pounds of ea. and just make up 1L bottles of concentrate.. much cheaper then some bottle with a crazy name and stupid picture on it for $40
