ok so lastnight me and a friend were talkin .. then we got on the subject of watering plants .. i was saying to NOT over water ,, let the roots dry a bit before watering again . the plants will get bigger like this because the roots are searching for water ... and i said over watering can cause root rot , and alot of problems with the plant itself like drooping leaves etc.... this is what i have learned ,,,.................................. then my friend came out & said .. you supposed to water all the time , they love water & LOTS of it , never let them dry out a bit ... then he says just like hydro , its roots are wet 24/7 ... so that made me think a bit ,,,, soooooo how is that .? the roots in hydro stay wet 24/7 & there is no overwatering problems .. or is there ,>>??? can somone help me figure this out ....

overwatering in soil is a problem due to suffocation of the root ball, in hydro the water is oxygenated and not all hydro systems have roots in water permanently. I used to use flood and drain and in between floods the hydroton would dry out ready for the next watering. Hope that cleared it up for you.

if u want 2 water a soil plant in soil every day u can give them o2 shoots. this will give oxegen to the roots so u can water every day if u want too

in other words, there would be an airstone/s in the dwc setup which is the only one where the roots are always submerged.

Plus the over water problem is more a concern in the newer and smaller plants..
I've had plants that needed water every day...most don't..watch the plant..It'll tell you...I usually wait till soil pulls away from the plant pot.......or notice a droopy lazy look to them..... the better the drainage the easier the watering will be...less chance of grim shit happening... Luck.. :)

I completely avoid the over watering problem by using 1000 ppm H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). I water every day using a hydro fertilizer solution in soil with the hydrogen peroxide and I get hydro performance (.8 gram/watt).

If you let you soil dry out then the smaller root hairs on the roots are being destroyed furthermore, root tips will not grow and are also being destroyed by soil that is dry and these root tips contain a high amount of a hormone called "cytokinin" which help in cellular division. Simply put, you do root damage by letting the soil dry out and this lack of root damage in hydro systems is why hydro does better than most soil grows.

If you don't use hydrogen peroxide then it is best not to over water, the lack of oxygen that you'll get from over watering in the root zone will encourage fungus and harmful anaerobic bacteria.

Hydroponics uses an aerated nutrient solution so the roots still get plenty of O2. Some systems such as flood tables do allow the roots to dry out a bit between cycles. Other system such a coco coir use a medium that holds a good ratio of air to water and are near impossible to overwater. If plants sit in a stagnant nutrient solution in hydro they start to rot it happens all the time with poorly designed or mis-managed set ups. Overwatering causes the same problems in soil the roots don't get enough O2 and the roots begin to die.

In the FAQ it talks about possible problem of peroxide killing good bacteria in the soil, I've read 2 sides to that coin... It's all down to what works with your set-up..soil, nutes...etc

In flower, my plants REEK when they're thirsty . . . not as much, by far, when they're damp enough for the moment.

Don't use peroxide with organics if you are using chemicals then the bacteria are probably already being killed so peroxide is fine

Quoted for truth. Don't use hydrogen peroxide with organics. In addition, the organic nutes are being oxidized and this could possibly affect their uptake into the roots.
