the tape is a great idea m8, i have freinds with bug problems and i think this would work for them.

Ya if your not using predator buds to kill of the infestations (or just random bugs) I'd hang a couple pieces of fly paper near the light(s), and put it around the bucket (for the ants), and 1 or 2 stripes across the bucket (from one edge to the other, near the stem of the plant).

I would only use the tape around the bucket (for the ants) if your using predator bugs, cause they will most likely get stuck in the hanging tape, and tape across the bucket (near the stem of the plant).

Lady bugs will take a couple of weeks to bring the infestation down to a managable level and they fly into the lights and pop. So they are not too good for indoor grows or heavily infested plants.

Also, ants on your plants may mean that you have scale. (I think thats what it is.) The ants actually "farm" these insects. They move them around and eat the sugars that are left behind. You may want to check your plants for this.

There is a product called Organicide that works great. If you mix like 1/2 tbs. of that with like 1 tsp of Neem oil, some soap, and warm water, you won't have any problems with mites. The Organicide is one of the only products I've found that works on the eggs. It smells like fish really bad though, so only spray it outside, and wait for the plants to dry before you bring them back in. The smell goes away in about a week, but if you sprayed it in your room, it may linger a bit longer.

I believe this is referring to aphids and the honeydew droplets that their feces is to ants.

Thanks you for the correction. I don't know why I was thinking scale.

Anyway, check your plants for aphids then if there are ants all over your plants.
