Nervous about low stress training, please help

So last week I started LST for the first time on one of my plants. I took a piece of twine, wrapped it around the stem and tied it off, then took another piece of twine around the stem, and bent it to pretty much 90 degrees in the opposite direction and tied it down. Really I'm just looking to make sure I've done it right and that I'm not going to be over-stressing my plant. Also, is it absolutely necessary that the main cola be at a completely horizontal position? It seems like a lot of my leaves are getting mashed up on the side of the pot and the twine. Please, any help on what I can do to improve or if I'm doing it right would be much appreciated!

yeah what you are doing is fine, the thing about LST is getting that main stem bent now instead of later because as it grows the lower part of the stem gets pretty hard and you can't bend it much at that point, so if you train it around now while its still green and squishy it will stick that way giving you a shorter bushier plant :)

Yeah, I think I even waited about a week or so too long to start, because the stem was already starting to harden up and get thicker. I was able to bend it without breaking it though, just required some very careful attention. My seedlings will definitely be starting LST a little bit earlier from now on.
