I am thinking of trying my hand at a photo-period strain~
DNA GENETICS feminized "Chocolope" (Thai Chocolate X Cantaloupe Haze)

any of you guys familiar with the strain or have grown it?.....
One thing you may want to look at is flower time. The flower time of that strain is about two and a half months. Right now I am running Cindy 99 which has a seven or eight week flower time.

Here she is at 5 weeks flowering. The yellow leaves are on a different plant.

The only problem I'm having right now is defoliation. Cindy isn't too bad but my other two plants are very bushy. Even just touching the fan leaves to move them out of the way my hand feels like tree sap after a couple of minutes. I will have to clip some of the fan leaves so the light can get to the buds below while wearing gloves.

Fucking terrible. I feel your pain. Maybe you should just toss the whole lot and start over.

When is your trash day, again? :bigjoint:

Friday.

I actually can't wait until Cindy is done. My manifold cookies project is starting to outgrow its tent and the new tent they sent was the wrong size. I needed to flower them last week but don't have room for the stretch.

You'll see below how defoliation of four or five dozen fan leaves opened up quite a few Bud sites to light. There is still less than 5%penetration through the canopy. If they respond well I may defoliate a little more in a week or so.

Some of the fan leaves were coated with trichomes. I cried when I threw them in the trash but I've had bad luck with trim.

Gorgeous!

Let that stuff dry thoroughly, then make cannabutter.

Dry that shit and run it across a screen for 15 minutes or so. bongsmilie
Dry sift is the only thing besides smoking bud that I've done so far (decarbed a ton of cheese last night for some edible adventures though). I'm grinding 2 zips of Amnesia bud this weekend to see how much hash I can out of it. I gift the sifted shake to a guy at work who can't handle good herb and he says it still gets him ripped. I tried a fat joint to the head myself, meh, caught a small headrush and proceeded to pack a bowl.
Which reminds me I need to see if I can barter with a friend for some silk screen since his family runs a print shop and he really likes stuff that we grow. :weed:

Not very impressed with the T-handle screw tight pollen press I got so.. Picked up a 20T bottle jack from harbor freight. Gonna be one badass pollen press when I'm done. :bigjoint:

Yes, it's been running around Colorado for over half a decade.

I'd try a newer strain, but then maybe the pheno I had wasn't a good representative of the breed.
i think mary is going to throw in (3) free on my order, so I figured why not, i will give them a shot :-)

yes, we've grown it in the past. Its been around about 10-12 years, DNA's Aaron created that strain back around 2005 or so. We have a Chocolope Kush going now that looks great.

Girl Scout cookies manifolding project 8.5 weeks since Germ. I think I should have started 12/12 weeks ago. Unfortunately the new tent I ordered was the wrong size. The right size tent should be here today. Either way I'm putting them on 12:12 tonight. Even with eight tops each these things are super bushy and cramped in that tent.

What are your various thoughts on defoliation? I'm thinking that if these things stretch double, none of the stuff on the bottom is going to survive. May as well chop it now.

I was under the impression that with mainlining you strip everything below the new tops after the nodes grow out sufficiently. I ended up supercropping mine to keep the height manageable.

There are good growers who take EVERY fan leaf off at some combination of day 1, 14, and 21 of flower.... The plants end up looking like a poodle on shaving day. But they end up glorious.

That's the part I missed. I did it before they grew out. The six foot tent will be here today and I will flip them and trim them.

That is what I am planning on doing in my flower tent but these are still in veg. Tomorrow on day one I will do a lollipopping.

Once mine are not babies anymore I pick leaves and groom them all the time.....at least until i see signs of flower. Im horrible....LOL

I was told "don't pick any leaves" but after considerable reading I Now understand difference between picking too many and opening up your bud sites to light. I picked about 50 fan leaves last week and then another 100 this week. That still leaves them 25%-40% of their fan leaves. I would remove more except it's getting harder and harder to get leaves without removing trichomes and I have to take a shower every time to get the sticky off of me.

There's purposeful trimming, then there's destructive defoliation. It's common gardening knowledge that removing more than 20-30% of the total veg mass on a mature plant will be detrimental to the plants health, take days to weeks to recover and consequently hurt production, especially in flower. Veg plants tend to spring back much quicker from heavy trimming. Defoliation makes poor environments seem better. If you need to defoliate to get light to the bottom of your canopy, you either need to decrease canopy height or increase light intensity.

Leaves are the main energy production for a plant, not the bud sites, it makes absolutely no sense to remove the largest ones. Most of my research, and a couple defoliation runs of clones, leads me to believe that it doesn't work and most people's opinions are based on photos like this that give the perception of larger buds because of trimming. The better test grows I've seen showed no appreciable gains in yield and slower finishing times, which is what I saw.

Generally, the only thinning that's needed is the bottom 1/4-1/3 and the interior of the canopy, just for good airflow. Do it going into flower, then around week 3 to clean up and get any suckers.

Maybe it has something to do with plant size. Not sure exactly how I would lower the the canopy on a 3 and 1/2 ft tall scrog. My three plants are completely filling a five-by-five. The bottom half of the plant was completely lollipopped in week 1 of flower and there was Zero light making it through the canopy by week 5. The entire canopy below the net was solid.

Here are just two of the links from all the reading I have done. Unfortunately I'm still looking for the university studies that explain how opening up bud sites increases yield. I have also noticed one other advantage, my UV light is much more effective on bud sites that aren't shaded.

At 3.5ft tall and plant material undet the net, I, personally, wouldn't be calling that a scrog, but trellis support. My scrogs generally end up no more than 20" over the screen, and fully trimmed under. Did you thread through the whole stretch?

If you find any post them. I'm putting my money on them being rarer than unicorn farts.
