:eyesmoke:ok how do i get a fake id? or rather where do I get new papers? I decided the other day after I remarked off hand that I do not happen to live in a paper please state that I need new papers because there are freakin Paper Please States!

It's much harder than it used to be. I only know a few people who have done it, and the only one I knew well enough to learn some details did it a long, long time ago. Pre common internet (IIRC late '70s). She had an abusive husband and was able to get some help. I don't know if what she did still works, so i won't blab it on a forum, that may be spreading bad advice or ruining a good thing.

Depending whay you want to do it, there are usually better options. Getting a new identity sucks, because the new identity doesn't have a history. Having no history raises questions, makes people suspicous. Suspicion torpedoes your quest for the new life. Then there you are, worse off than before. Lost the advantages of the new ID and lost the advantages of the one you have.

You can create thin identities and use them a little, but even that doesn't go as far as it used to. Years back, if you had a wallet full of business cards in a second name, that would get you through any non LE encounters and you could even set up a checking account without ID up into the '80s.

I don't know or care why you want a new ID, but put serious thought into why you do and what other path may meet those needs.

Most people who think they want or need a new ID don't need one. Chances are, if you have a bad reputaion and some bad dealings you want to put behind you, all you need to do is split where you are and go low profile in your new location. Two cases in point. One, my own. In the late '80s I moved an hour away from where I had been. Out of a small city. Nothing nefarious, just moved and didn;t tell most of the assholes I had known where I was going because....they were assholes. A year later I ran into a guy I had known at a gas station. He said the rumor was that I had been killed or was in jail. I asked "Why?" He didn't know. Just people's imaginations when I stopped hanging around. Second was a guy I knew who was stabbed outside a bar, last seen strapped to a gurney in Oregon. Rumor was he was dead. 25 years later, I ran into him in Florida. He said that when he was in the hospital he realised that the people he was hanging around with were not his friends, so when he got better he just left. Point is, if you leave where you are and don't give anybody reason to look for you, no one will find you.

If you owe debts, pay them. If you have relationships you want to walk away from, tell them you want out. Then go away. If the FBI is after you, no 'new ID' crap will keep them from finding you. If you just want to walk away from people who aren't your friends, walk away from them.

Which states have these, and what form do they take?

Shit, Barack Obama's your case study. Find out how a guy born in Kenya has a fake ass birth certificate from Hawaii, a social security number from Connecticut and still managed to land the most powerful job in the world.
