Newb grower need some help

You are in good hands with SirLancelot. I'm outta here with just one thing.
I grew some fire assed weed from bagseed. SO much better than the weed it came from was. I highly suggest you start out with bagseed until you get the basics of growing down. It should only take you a couple grows to get good enough to go for good genetics. My first 2 grows were an accelerated learning process. By the third, I didn't even get a burnt tip. THEN I got a hold of the best genetics I could get my hands on!!! Learn with cheap shit, then grow the good. I promise you that what ever you get from the bagseed will be pretty damn good. You just have to keep a closer eye out for hermies, but then, thats a good thing for practice.

Yep thats why i saved up a whole bunch of bagseeds from decent regular stuff that i get. i just need a good setup and ill let them grow. i only need 1 or 2 plants if i get a decent yield out of them

I don't know much about that specific light but Im sure it'll get the job done. I started out with a sunlight system light. eventually bought a better ballast and better bulbs but that will do great. If your doing small and heat may be an issue you may want to consider a 250w but warning after a few grows you will wish you got the 400. I wish I got the 600... oh well. As for the tent idk there again I went with a more pricey one secret jardin that had some bells and whistles. but as long as it zips up and has mylar you should be good. One thing I'd recommend is as soon as you get the tent up zip it up when your inside and look for light leaks because tents are known to have busted seems etc from either (manufacturing hiccups or shipping and handeling) where a lil light could get in and do not so good things to your flowering babies. I just took a roll of duct tape and covered in lil light leaks. How I set up my carbon filter is it's in the tent hanging from the rack. then ducting runs from that to the hole in the upper part of your tent usually on one side. Outside their I have a shelf which my inline fan sits on where the ducting hooks up too. This is causing suction through my carbon filter meaning air inside the tent is being sucked through the filter through the ducting through the inline fan. on the other side you just run ducting to wherever you want to exhaust too ie outside, another room. I helped a buddy set up a tent where we went into the floor above and ran the ducting in between floors (the only concern I had was humidity build up but it hasn't seemed to be a problem) venting into the same room your tent is in may cause problems, Im not sure on that but if at all possible you want constant fresh air flowing into your plants not recycled air they've already used up. but I wouldn't worry too much aboutthat starting out. I've grown a plant in the corner of a basement room that had no windows or fresh air, wasn't the best plant but it did grow.

I would just check around for the best reviews on amazon or what others use. I use sunlight systems light. 2 ballast one is quantum and the other is lumatek both are wonderful.

that filter will probably work didn't see a brand on it. but i noticed it said 448cfm which is the vacum volume it moves, depending on your grow which I'm assuming is fairly small correct? you might be at an overkill with the fan. I think my hydrofarm inline fan is only like a 200cfm and it's not even on full speed. But i believe most growers use their fans for tempeture control, like to suck out as much heat as possible, since I don't have that problem I don't worry about it I just make sure I have enough air being sucked in the carbon filter the odor doesn't leak out the passive intakes.

i came up with a list of stuff based on the things you've said so far. take a look.

based on that i still got a carbon scrubber i need some chains because i dont trust them ropes for the HPS and some PH testing equipment any links are appreciated.Oh and i forgot, all of that adds up to 285 dollars plus shipping which is cheap if you ask me its over my budget but not by a lot 400 i guess is the max i will do ill just sell my ps3 haha

This looks good it even comes with two bulbs so you can use the MH in veg and the HPS in flower, the only downside to wing style reflectors if heat is an issue for you and even with all the fans going and inline on full speed you may still have heat issues which means you have to figure out how to cool it either by having to leave the flaps open or provide cooled air. another option would be too look at an aircooled hood. This is something I can't really help you on because I dunno if your going to have heat issues or not. is the tent in a normally trafficed room in the house? basement? whats the air temp where the tent will be?

lol this is actually the one im going to grab myself soon. Like I said just check it for light leaks also the tubes they come with are aluminum and claim they can hold 50lbs but I don't trust em so I made sure to Duct tape all of my joints where the tubes come together as well as where they cross at the top (2 one way, 2 the other overlapping) I took heavy duty zip ties and zip tied the 4 points where they cross across the top of the tent... hhmm thats hard to explain, hope you got it. lol man one more thing wherever it gets set up make sure that's where it's gonna stay. I recently moved my tent into a new room it took myself and a buddy like 6hrs maybe more to break it down and set up and ready before the lights came back on.

WEll these I don't think matter much because most of the cheap ones are all off a lil. I mean I have literally put 3 different thermometers in the exact same areas and had varying degrees. This isn't as big of an issue as when late in flowering when a humidity guage needs to be accurate. But once you get late into flowering and start thinking about properly curing the bud you may want to invest in a nice one but thats for later not now. Also depending on where your tent is i just bought myself a wireless thermometer were I put the base station under the light (hanging 10" from a chain because thats where I keep the top of my canopy at. it makes it easier to know where to have my light. anyways the point is I bought that now I have a big base that is upstairs in my office that tells me the temp and humidity. I love this because now I don't have to run my lazy ass all the way down stairs everytime I want to check temps. but it is actually 4 degrees off...

def gonna need that, never used one like that but there all the same. maybe think about a inline fan speed control, not a necessity but it does help with control. although id wait and see how it turns out running on full speed, if you find out heat isn't an issue you may want to get one so you could slow it down a bit. not neccessary though

right on but if you didn't want to get it shipped im sure walmart has these

I use those hanging ropes (yo yo's) they are absolutly awesome! so much better than fucking with chains and I have a heavy hood that holds two bulbs at once! its nearly a 1x2ft steel hood and the sides come down so it could be sealed and air cooled if needed. man don't sell the ps3! Just save up and get what you need, Hell I'll even wait an extra month so I can afford the better quality of brands whatever it may be.

alright so then ill use them, saves me money haha what do you think about all of that? good for the money? or should i get a more expensive light?

i got a xbox too and the ps3 just sits i never play it anymore so its fine :p and heat will be a issue so i need to look into air cooled. maybe ebay will be better for that. ill hold off on the thermometer then

hell ya man looks good! one thing when you attach the hangers to the rods on the top of the tent im sure theres other methods maybe even better but what I do is grab some heavy guage wire from lowes (something that is really tough and hold weight) I took it and looped it through the hole of the top of the hanger then just twist it onto the rails. It's a little tricky to get them exactly even but you'll figure it out.

Good luck brother hope all works out, BTW i want to let you know I was just giving you advice from my personal experience the things I do in my grow in my setup are not neccessarly the best for your setup or anyone elses. that you'll figure out after a few grows.

Thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. the holes on the tent is 6 inch right? will this work good enough to cool my light?

i need flexduct too right? like the stuff for dryers?

6" is plenty. remember the more turns that are in the ducting the less efficient it will work. I don't remember the statistics im sure you could find it but for every turn it looses like a good 20-30% vacum efficency. If that is the case were you have to make many turns you may look into a higher cfm fan.

YES for sure I made the mistake of getting the tough rigid shit. I mean it works but is such a bitch to work with. I spent intirly too much time trying to get that damn thing to stay connected and forming it to the right angles to get where I need. def go with the flex.

absolutly, were all hear to share our knowledge and love for growing.

Peace

where would i put that? lets say i got my light hanging up what side? or doesnt it matter?

i have decided on what im going to buy, i want to know what you guys think of it.

Now i got a question, the carbon scrubber and the fan can i put it inside the tent, run the duct from the inline fan to the light, put the booster fan on the other side of the light, and run a duct out of the tent? if not how should i set it up? just wanting all this info before i get it so i can set it up right away and get my plants in a nice home.:weed:

yes I believe that is how you would want to set it up.

mine is inside the tent. and it works most efficiently that way.

And for a pH meter, just be sure and get a good one. No need for ppms or EC, they aren't really applicable in soil. A good Hanna will run you between $50 and $80.
