Newbie advice?

Hi all!

This is my first post to try and receive some feedback on my current grow set up and results thus far.

A little backstory on what I am using:
1.) I have a 16" x 12" x 24" grow box
2.) three 6500k cfls
3.) 2 northern lights fem autos, one which was germinated in the soil and on in paper towel and then put in soil
4.) soil is fox farm ocean forest

I'm about 4 days in from them both breaking ground and I want to get some opinions. Maybe I'm just impatient, but it seems there growth speed has slowed down. The one on the right was the on germinated in the towel and actually looks worse than the other. Any idea why this would be?

Also, I have watered them only 2 times. That was when they were almost completely dry. I have added no mutes.

I am wondering if I should put them in bigger pots? They are currently in small jiffy pots. I want to keep the plant size down since I have limited space, but I still want them to grow. I'm just doing this for personal and I don't expect to be growing pounds or anything.

As I said, this my first grow and I'm sure I've done numerous things wrong, so let me have it!

They are fine. Some plants have more vigor than others. They don't need to be transplanted any time soon. Just don't over water. Also, get the lights close to prevent too much stretch. A few inches is fine.

Research is right. At the moment your plants are focusing more on root growth. As soon as the taproot finds the bottom of the jiffy pot you will start to see quicker veg growth. You won't need to transplant for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

Hey guys! Thanks a bunch for the helpful insight! I think I'm just impatient. :-). Do you guys have any suggestion on how to keep an auto fairly short? From what I've read, they seem to have a mind of there own.

LST them. Train them where you want them to go/grow.

image.jpg image.jpg Hey guys! So my seedlings seem to be having issues. I have watered them maybe 4 times sine we last spoke. I have read that the first leave are supposed to turn yellow, but frankly these guys just done look good to me. Maybe nitrogen deficiency? Any advice would be much appreciated

Ffof is too hot for seedlings in past experience. Transplanting into ffof after a few wks is ideal..thats most likely nute burn, but its hard to say being so young.
Also...theres something thats been going around for a while about not transplanting autos because of their set lifespan and blahblah but transplanting autos has never caused any sort of problems around my neck of the woods..not reduced yields or any of that..what works for one may not work for another though yaknow..best of luck!

I plant straight into ocean forest mixed with 20-30 percent perlite. Haven't burned one yet. Just dont over water them, so they toughen up. FYI- I do use happy frog now instead, becuase it's milder, and there is less wood bark, sticks, and crap in it.

Think it's too early for N def.. That pot looks soaking wet, looks to be over watered..
When you do transplant be gently, auto don't really like it.
My thoughts exactly. These seedlings are drowning. Let the soil dry out a little more between watetings.

The biggest mistake first time around is being too attentive, too suspicious and just plain impatient.

They are plants, don't over think it. Water them, feed them occasionally and learn to read what they are telling you. They will do the rest.

image.jpg Hi all, so these first two plants didn't work out. However, I have started a new grow. As mentioned before I am growing northern lights auto and I only have a 2" grow box to work with. The seeds sprouted on the 19th of June. This is how the new one is looking. Since I have limited room, I am wondering if the 1 gallon pot I have them will be sufficient for them to flower. I have seen pics of people growing smaller plants in these types of boxes, so it appears it can be done. Comments? Tips?

As always, thank you!

Unfortunately, no, so I have been using whatever I can find to prop it up closer to the light and then back it off as it gets closer.

Ya I'm thinking you'll run into space issues once she starts flowering. You might run out of head space when all is said and done. Maybe think about training the branches to grow outward rather than up by tying them down.

I have not watered my seedlings since before you posted this thread, tomorrow they get a nice watering. Let them dry out a bit. Watering every day is not a good idea in a container that size with seedlings in it.

Hi all! So I am about a week into flowering and noticed this stuff showing up on the big fan leaves a couple of days ago. Any idea what it could be and should I be worried? They appear to for now just be on the fan leaves. I read that maybe it's a calcium deficiency? I have been using ph'd water. Looking forward to everyimage.jpg image.jpg one's thoughts! Thank you!
