Ok here it goes. Ive been smoking for about 3 years now. Love it and unless something crazy comes up I dont plan on quitting anytime soon. Used to smoke w.e was available, but now upgraded and only smoke kush or higher grade stuff 90% of the time. Comes with a price ( about $100 a Qtr), which is ultimately why I even considered growing my own.

I live in the States, and the particular state I live in its a felony (Cultivating) if caught growing. How ever, everything Ive seen in the news as far as busts close to where I live, is ALOT bigger operations than I intend on doing. Like hundreds of plants.

I was wanting to give you all kind of a rough draft on what I wanna do and have you add/subtract ideas.

- I live in the country
- Indoor isnt an option for me at this time

Im wanting to just get some Reg/schwagg seeds. Scout out an area adjacent to my land ( LOTS of woodland area & never traveled ). Then kind of make/set up a spot to start. The spot I choose will be about 300-400 yards away from my house. So going to check on them, water them, or what ever wont be a big deal at all.

My friend that is gonna help me works on a plant nursery, so he has access to pots of all sizes, good soil, fertilizer, etc.

How many plants should I start off trying to grow?
I know these plants put off more heat than most, which is how there found from the air...correct? So with that being said I also heard to plant them around Pine or Cedar trees because they too put off more heat than others...correct?

When scouting out a place to grow, what should I be looking for?

Exactly what this guy said....way too late in the season to consider starting a grow no matter where you live in the U.S. Next year, start it around March or April, depending on the last frost.

I would not use Reg/schagg seeds. Buy some seeds of a strain with the appropiate flowering strain for your location

  • A tad late to start dont you think?

Yea absolutely it is. Im just trying to get a head start next year. It wont be till next Spring till I get my own place, which is the area I described in the OP.

How would I go about trying to find that info out?

Most seed companies specify which strains are for temperate climates, mediterranean climates, etc. when you look for seeds that are better suited for growing outdoors

:dunce::wall:I'm so glad I found this thread. I also am planning my first grow next spring. I live in the same climate as the OP, also out in the country. Looking through the seed banks is very confusing. It is even kinda confusing looking through this forum for a beginner. I understand auto-flowering strains are not dependant on light cycle to trigger flowering, so why do seed banks list an outdoor harvest time for these auto-flowering strains? If a auto strain is listed as 90 days to maturity, you plant in may- you harvest in august right? plant in june- harvest in september?

Yes, autoflowers really shouldn't have harvest date months per say outdoors....not sure why they list actual Months instead of just like you are saying smonilover....90 days or however long for each strain from sprout....but 90 days is just an average figure remember....more daylight or less daylight, nutrients, and other environmental aspects can alter that figure

Thanks. I was thinking of growing a few different strains to spread my harvest out. Like a quickly maturing auto-flowering strain, a later auto-flowerer, and a regular photo-triggered strain. Sound like a good idea? Also I could use some advice on good strains of these types. Thanks.

Smonilover - Im in Oklahoma/country ... What state you from, just to get an idea of climate? If you dont wanna say for what ever reason no worries.

Im having mixed thoughts about whether doing it indoors or outdoors ... Guess I need to find out and then weigh the pros and cons.

I know generally outdoor yields more, due to less growth restriction.

How much better, if at all, is natural sunlight over store bought lighting?
Other than trial and error, is there any way to tell before hand how good of a climate I live in as far as growing goes? Oklahoma is known for having some crazy weather. For example we just had an extremely hot summer. Since Im a newbie, Im not sure if any plants would have survived it. I guess ultimately it would be trial and error, unless someone chimes in with some good info from a similar type climate. I just dont wanna put forth effort if its a dead end road, you know?

What strain would 1 of you experts advise for a 1st time grower, in my climate, for both an indoor and outdoor grow?

I'm in Tennessee. I don't know a whole lot but I can tell you cannabis will grow basically anywhere in the States. It's just a matter of finding the best strain. Click on the seeds link at the top of this page. You will see there are traditional strains which have a long growing season and are ready for harvest in the fall. There are also autoflowering strains which are ready 60, 90, 120 days after germination, regardless of season or lighting (that really blew my mind). There are strains for hot climates, coll ones, wet climates and dry.... It really is quite confusing for newbies like us, but I have already learned so much from this thread and this forum in general. Look at the "glossary" thread. Ask questions. Ignore any smart asses who dont remember that they were once newbies too. Thats what im going to do. Also, accept my friend request so we can see in our profiles where we post and what answers we get plz.
